2 kids shot in Philly home playing with gun

PHILADELPHIA -- Police say a 13-year-old boy accidentally shot himself and a 12-year-old girl inside a Philadelphia home.

Authorities say the boy was playing with a gun Monday night when it went off.

The bullet struck the boy in the left hand before then striking the girl in the knee, CBS Philly reported.

The boy was taken by a private vehicle to a hospital, and the girl was taken by an ambulance to another hospital. Both are listed in stable condition.

The rational is that if the gun is locked away it isn't available in a second's notice for home defense. That's why the concealed carry population thinks having a round in the chamber and a gun without a mechanical safety is so important. Gotta' be ready to draw and fire instantly. They also oppose laws about reporting lost or stolen guns because they might be accused of gun trafficking.

Yet they all insist that criminals get their guns illegally on the black market, a market fed by stolen guns. Two hundred thousand guns are stolen every year but there is opposition to any attempt to stop theft and prevent accidental shootings by minors.

Go figure.

"two-A" (absolutists and apologists) crowd will state just how insignificant and out-of-the-norm this type of "accident" really is. As if that excuses the right-wing gun culture from all responsibility for the needless and preventable deaths and injuries from guns in this country.
