How Are Corporations Interfering With Our Criminal Justice System?

Spotlight on Gun Bills
For many years, until this spring, the National Rifle Association (NRA) actually co-chaired the ALEC "Task Force on Public Safety and Elections." [The election bills are discussed in the section of this site titled "Democracy, Voter Rights and Federal Power."] ALEC bills include "model" legislation that advances the constitutionality of an individual's right to bear arms, an argument vindicated by a recent ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court. The legislation also would likely benefit the firearms industry closely connected to the NRA.
Bills or resolutions in this area:
* Oppose bans on semi-automatic firearms like the one used in the shooting in Arizona that killed nine people and seriously injured Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
* Oppose waiting periods for criminal and mental health background checks for firearm purchases.
* Support concealed-carry gun laws see also here.
* Oppose efforts by law enforcement to use their purchasing power get gun manufacturers not to market guns or ammo likely to be used against police, like "cop killer bullets" that pierce armor.
* Prohibit local counties or cities from enacting firearm restrictions, or emergency measures that could be abused.
* Encourage guns on campus, and for younger kids.

The insidious organizations operating at all levels of our government include ALEC and the NRA, both of which are supported by the Koch Brothers and other right-wing financial Trump supporters.
We must support not only gun control organizations, but ALL Liberal movements which are working to oppose the far-right, white supremacist, "Second Amendment Solution" ideologues who currently control our government.

OP
They also interfere w/ other initiatives, such tallying up the total number of deaths by guns, etc.

The headline is misleading. The vast majority of corporations has nothing to do with this.

I seem to remember this nonsense occurring somewhere where they opposed our police depts. from tallying up total number of violence committed by guns.

The organizations that are mentioned in the article are ALEC and the NRA, neither of which is a "Corporation" as commonly understood.

(6,641 posts)3. Read the entire article
"Corporations and their politician allies voted behind closed doors through ALEC to change America's criminal justice system and enrich profits.
On the surface, many ALEC bills look like basic tough-on-crime legislation, but some corporate leaders of ALEC benefit financially from such legislation -- meaning that what has been sold to the public as good for public safety was often pushed by corporations that profit from such changes in the law, without politicians disclosing their corporate allies' financial interest to the public when such bills, pre-approved by the corporations, were introduced."

ALEC is made up of, and supported by, right-wing corporations such as the Koch Brothers. The NRA is a lobbying group for the gun manufacturers.
Sorry to rain on your pro-gun parade.

But someone had a nit to pick.....

(24,597 posts)5. "your pro-gun parade?" Where do you get off calling me "pro-gun?" I just don't like misleading
headlines. Your absurdly defensive reaction just confirms your tendency to exaggerate and make stuff up. Very, very few corporations have any interest at all in supporting either the NRA or gun rights. Why would they?
billh58
(6,641 posts)6. Nope. Nothing made up,
just posting facts published by reputable sources, and the article is not only about guns, but many other corporate right-wing ALEC endeavors.
Bub bye...
