"My rights trump your dead"

A pro-Second Amendment speech that has received widespread acclaim. We have gun proponents on record making clear they believe their rights to guns are more important than dead children. It is THEY who make the explicit connection between guns and slain children by pointing out that "my rights trump your dead" is the best line in the speaker's speech.

(quote marks added): "my rights trump your dead" is the 'best line' in the speaker's speech.

Weiss wraps himself in the american flag & makes an ingratiating & specious argument, here it is:
.. He then took a direct shot at all the {gun control} politicians who used the tragedy of Sandy Hook to advance their agendas.
“Another issue is the insistence of certain people to stand on the graves of dead children and challenge those that disagree to say it to the parent’s faces,”why is ‘dead children’ your battle cry?” Weiss asked passionately. “You didn’t say anything about the hundreds of Chicago children being killed and for some reason you only screamed when it happens to wealthy white ones.”
“And yes, I’ll say to anyone’s face,” Weiss added, “my right is more important than your dead, because I fought for it first hand. I washed the blood of my friends out of my Humvee and I picked up their mangled bodies and I fought day in and day out.”

.. So, yeah, my right trumps your dead.”

Imagine the rightwing furor if women wanting an abortion said that.

Since afghan & iraq war 2003 where less than 10,000 US soldiers died in ten years, over a quarter million americans dead from gunfire in america.
Gun rights trump whose dead? those dead?

and his fallen comrades. So he uses his dead to advance his cause, indeed as justification for why he is more important than the rest of us, but he resents the fact that mourning parents would fight for gun control in memory of their slain children.
It's incredible.

Since dead people don't need any rights, it seems to me the right to life is the supreme right above all others.

Without life, all other rights are null.

America must deal with the crazy gun culture the NRA has created. Life is the most precious gift any of us has.

Crazy--there should be a law the insane people can't be in office!

that there is a big difference between a "right" and an obsession with an inanimate object. The NRA, DU Gungeoneers, and other right-wingers use the Second Amendment as a prop to hide behind while spewing hatred and death.

SYG and CW are just thinly-veiled excuses for a return to KKK-style vigilantism, as revealed by the travesty in Florida. The door is now open for multitudes of Zimmerman copy-cats, and we must work even harder to close it. Public opinion is rapidly shifting toward more gun control and regulation, and those who are celebrating Zimmerman's state-sanctioned murder of Trayvon Martin are being premature in claiming "victory."

Macho 'nobody bothers me' laws, which as much gives more license to overreact & get away with it, than prevents any real damage which might've occurred.
Was just reading where zimmerman could still face either or both a civil trial & federal charges. I think the latter doubtful, despite both president & atty general being black I bet they opt out of it for fear of being accused of playing race card. The civil trial better liklihood of going on, & only takes a majority maybe 9 of 12 jurors to convict of wrongful death, rather than murder or manslaughter. Reminiscent of OJ where he got away with murder but was convicted in the civil trial.
In hindsight (& I thot zimmerman guilty of something) I bet zimm would've been convicted of aggavated assault if they'd sought that charge, coulda spent 5 years or so.

bains: Notice he invokes the blood he got on his hands form military service and his fallen comrades. So he uses his dead to advance his cause, indeed as justification for why he is more important than the rest of us, but he resents the fact that mourning parents would fight for gun control in memory of their slain children.

What's crazier is the 'rights' he's so upset about losing - rights to an ak47 or ar15 assault rifles & supermags - the way he's ranting you'd think obama was gonna rescind the 2ndA & confiscate all his guns (at gunpoint!) leaving him a single shot musket, then throwing him back in afghanistan with it.

weiss: .. better men than me gave up a whole lot more so that all of you, myself included, could enjoy the rights that are guaranteed to us in our Constitution and Bill of Rights.”

Drama queen, you're no nathan hale the only thing you got right, & when the bill of rights & 2ndA were written that's most all they had was those single shot muskets;
.. the SAFE act he's whining about bans maybe two percent of new yorks (available) gunstock, leaving such a selection to choose from a small army could be outfitted with hundreds of different sophisticated guns & rifles. And he isn't limited to one gun purchase per month, it's all you can eat (I think). He certainly served in a well regulated militia but 90% of others never do anymore, & assault rifles & supermags embolden criminals & potential criminals moreso than it helps 'law abiding citz' ward them off. Despite nra bleatings, criminals & potentials LOVE seeing guncontrol measures like this getting defeated, cause they know how easier it'll be to get the guns cause they'll be so plentiful. Somebody should do an ex-violent con poll 'were you happy when guncontrol laws were passed'? I bet only the minority would say yes.

Everybody needs to see it, to understand just how off-the-edge the pro-gun radicals have gone. Everybody needs to fully understand that, by their own, clear, public admission, pro-gun militants do not give a single flying fuck about the carnage which results from too many guns ending up in the hands of too many individuals who shouldn't have them. "My rights trump your dead" is just a short version of "Dead Sandy Hook school children? Who gives a shit? Hand me that 60-round magazine and shut the fuck up." Have no doubt as to the evil nature of the people we're up against---they may be your neighbors, they may be your family relations, but they are evil, nonetheless.
