A Victory for Common Sense: Arkansas Attorney General: Schools Can't Arm Teachers, Staff

LITTLE ROCK - Arkansas' attorney general says school districts can't use a state law to employ teachers and staff as licensed, armed security guards on campus.
Attorney General Dustin McDaniel on Thursday said in an opinion issued by his office that the Arkansas board of Private Investigators and Private Security Agencies doesn't have the authority to license school districts to employ teachers and staff as armed guards.
The opinion was requested after the Clarksville School District began training more than 20 teachers and staff to work as volunteer security guards who would carry concealed weapons on campus. The superintendent of the district said the opinion likely meant the schools couldn't continue with that program.
A state lawmaker requested the opinion the day after The Associated Press reported about Clarksville's program."

(438 posts)too risky.
A better solution would be to reinforce entry and classroom doors, install more cameras.
These would do more for school security than armed teachers or staff.

It appears that's $70,000 of the small Clarksville budget down the drain now, eh?

Do you have a smart phone?

(438 posts)No, no smart phone, I tend not to own something that's smarter than me.
I have a simple Verizon flip phone. It suits my needs.

(6,057 posts)I imagine I could eventually, I just never saw the need to, all I need from a cell phone is to make phone calls and maybe a text every now and then, maybe a few pics now and then.

(438 posts)I pay $100.00 a month for mine and my wife's phones with unlimited minutes/texts, we're happy with that.
My kids all have smart phones, and they are pretty cool, but they're just not for us.
Wait a minute, are you a smart phone dealer? Are you trying to sell me on the idea of a smart phone and then sell me one?
