Texas proposes alcohol sales at some gun shows

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas could start allowing alcohol sales at gun shows provided they don't allow live ammunition or let buyers take possession of their weapons at the events.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission announced the proposal Friday. It will hold a 30-day public comment period before any change is made.

The proposal also would require that firearms being shown for sale be disabled and not readily convertible for use.

Under current rules, if a gun show is held at a venue licensed to sell alcohol, drinks sales and consumption are suspended during the time it takes to set up, conduct and dismantle the gun show.

I'm all for gun shows and all that jazz, but for crying out loud -- the reason gun shows are so much stricter about ammunition and disabling guns is that at a gun show, it's normal for lots and lots of people to handle lots and lots of guns. It only takes one mistake by a beginner or sloppy guest to end up with a negligent discharge. I hope venues and show organizers continue to prohibit alcohol regardless of whether it's legal or not -- if their common sense won't demand it, their insurers almost certainly will.

does it really matter...I mean, should we sacrifice our public safety...that there are all these normal gun owners who take care of their guns. don't get me wrong, I'm glad they do, but again and again we see that basically, public safety and guns are really out of their hands...they can't control any of the idiocy and criminal stupidity, it is just baked in the cake with so many 2nd A folks...

It's the mentality, stupid...
