Wow, what an expansive subject. There's not much you can bar under that heading so there are no holds barred basically... so what do you need a host for? I'll sweep the floor, supply snacks and clean the refrigerator once a year.

I'd say this is a place to argue and challenge as well as hone ideas and in the process learn something. As I've read through past posts I've noticed some very intelligent and insightful people who have contributed to this group. Take advantage of their ideas. If you're here to find people to agree with your personal point of view you're probably in the wrong place. If your here to make a point and not be challenged, good luck with that but don't expect much. If you feel overwhelmed by a challenge to your position, you can pick up your chips, delete your posts and flee; it's a necessary reaction for some. But if you stay put and think through all arguments you may learn something or even sharpen your own ideas.

Another great use for this group is sharing philosophical history so share away.

Suggestions:

Reason (arguably) is your friend.
Lighten up.
Don't proselytize. There are other groups for that.
Be careful of divisive subjects like the existence of a particular deity. There are other groups for that one too, although deity in the history of philosophy is apropos.

Rules:

Only one: Civility

If you "could" get an alert for something perceived as uncivil, you "could" get banned. If you say "I think that idea is stupid"... no big deal. If you say "people like you fuck us all"... bye bye.

Oh yeah, No swearing or sexual innuendos... NOT. (although make sure you meet the DU ToS especially where sexism and discrimination are concerned) The DU ToS is god. oops.

That's about it. I'll pin this OP but leave it open to input. If good ideas or criticisms arise I'll make some revisions and eventually lock it forever and ever, amen. (unless I misspell something)
