Abby Ohlheiser
Pope Francis said Wednesday that he supports equal pay for men and women who perform the same jobs. The fact that a disparity exists, the pontiff said, is a pure scandal.
The remarks during his weekly general audience at the Vatican were part of a broader statement on the importance of marriage.
Francis asked Catholics to consider the Christian seed of radical equality between men and women when discussing the reasons behind declining marriage rates around the world, according to Vatican Radio.

(4,473 posts)The liberals were going on about women's ordination, and the conservatives were making noises like "The pope's real concern here is the problems with marriage". For the most part, neither side seemed all that interested in addressing what Pope Francis had actually said.

(11,181 posts)Francis is breaking a lot of taboos. The RCC is not noted for rapid reform, but there still seems to be hope that Francis will pave the way for more radical reform, especially in terms of equality of the sexes and acceptance of LGBT. I wish him well in this difficult and dangerous endeavor.
