12/17/14
Elizabeth Warren is outspoken, uncompromising, and strong-willed. Everyone knows that. However, would her brash personality be enough to defeat Hillary Clinton in a presidential showdown? New York Times columnist David Brooks seems to think so.
...Brooks continues to bolster Warrens theme of fighting and confrontation by noting how the Democratic Party is growing more combative, saying the theres an underlying and sometimes vituperative sense of frustration toward President Obama, and especially his supposed inability to go to the mat.
Each year, more and more Democrats become dissatisfied with the ever-increasing amount of power that corporations accrue with each election cycle. In 2001, 51 percent of Democrats were displeased with corporate power. Ten years later, that number grew to 79 percent.
Warren has the aggression, but she also has the intelligence to temper that aggression from becoming petty, white-hot anger. Also, there are more Democrats that are willing to buy into her populist, anti-corporate message. Now, as to whether or not shed defeat Hillary, Brooks reminds us that history is against Warren because the establishment wins. However, Warren has the fire, and appears to have the support.

(38,374 posts)If this was the old days when they actually had conventions where the candidate was selected then perhaps, but so far she isn't gaining any traction. In reality she is shunning the issue of running. By all means please proceed regaling us with her exploits.

(57,936 posts)If America needed her to serve on a battlefield, she would do it. She is a stubborn fighter. She will do what is right. If running is right, she will run.
Read her book.

(57,936 posts)Have you read her book?
Because unless you have, you may misunderstand Elizabeth Warren's statement about running.
She is very precise in her language. She has lots of reason to run. She has things to do, things to change. And she can't change them, she can't for example, appoint the Secretary of Commerce, from the Senate. She can't change the rules of the game about corruption and the power of money in D.C. from the Senate.
Read her book.
I have asked a number of Warren-doubters whether they have read her book. So far not a one of them as answered in the affirmative.
Warren has already taken on the powerful, the status quo in D.C. She will continue to do so. If running looks to her like the next wise step, she will run, and she will be a very, very, very tough opponent. When she fights, she fights to win. She is not like so many of our politicians. She is exceedingly honest, and by that I mean that there is a singleness in her purpose, a humility in her and a dedication to reform that I would call integrity.
We desperately need economic reform that lifts up our middle class.
Today I went to a bank and talked to a young (maybe late 30s, I'm much older) employee. She told me she did not think she would ever be able to pay for a house because she owed too much on her student loans. She said to me, "The American dream is dead." I told her to check out Elizabeth Warren. I am absolutely certain that she will.
Young people are depressed about the future and justifiably so. I do not see any candidates other than Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders who have any realistic ideas about how to make the American dream of financial independence (even if limited) for ordinary Americans real, possible, a choice.
People are afraid of losing their jobs, of saying the wrong thing in their workplace. They are intimidated by the lack of job security, the low pay and their huge debts, often for education.
Elizabeth Warren is speaking to this existential problem that plagues our country. She is a viable candidate, and if we work hard to try to get her to run, I think and hope she will run.
Agnosticsherbet
(11,619 posts)She doesn't say she is thinking about it, or consulting with her family, or will decide later.
She says No.
I don't think she is lying through her teeth when she says No.
I don't get people who do.
JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)She doesn't decide to run for things or apply for things. She gets asked.
She bakes a cake or cookies or something and somebody important calls her up and asks her to do something. That's her story. She is not a person with a big ego who goes out and screams to the world that she is running for some position. She gets asked.
We just have to present a compelling argument to her, tell her that she is the one we want for the job and why. She will run if our argument convinces her she should. That's my take after reading her book.
Agnosticsherbet
(11,619 posts)on every occassion.
Why do you think she was lying the first, second, third, fourth, and other times she has been asked?
I think she would make a good President. She does not have the desire to take that job at this time.
She is even on record as suporting Clinton should she run.
Until Warren is asked, and says, "You know, I have changed my mind, I will not put energy into supporting her for a position as our representative in the Administrative Branch of Government.

I'll vote & support the Dem that takes on the Repuke in the final draw.
No question about it.
I will not abstain & I will not vote Repuke.
Dem candidate gets my vote. Whomever that will be.

(9,148 posts)Childish comeback there. Geez Grow Up.
I like Warren. Who doesn't..I hope she runs.
I will not vote Repuke. I will vote for the Dem Candidate on behalf of the Supreme Court & Women's Rights & I will not bash ad-nauseum, Hillary Clinton without also stating what value she also brings as her fight world wide for Women's rights.
Unfortunately when speaking of either Warren or Clinton I'll have to look at good both have done. Not center on one item as the Clinton haters so often do here.
I find the tone pretty despicable.
But I am entitled to my view, as you are yours.
I will promote either as valuable to the Dem party and far better than anything the GOP runs.
BUT until either claims a place in the dem candidates of 2016, I will at least speak civil about both great of these politicians.
I will NOT come on DU and demonize one of our own as I see so often done here.
Its enough to make me NOT want Warren.
Just because I am so disgusted & sick of the Hillary hate from your camp.
My vote will be for whomever will stand up to the GOP candidate in their quest to drive this Nation into third world status.
Hillary Clinton: "Women's rights are human rights and human rights are women's rights."

There is much more to Hillary Clinton than you have given her credit for.
Perhaps then, your can promote Warren much farther by comparing her with a GOP canidate like Jeb Bush for instance. How will she fare against the mega campaign the GOP is preparing for?
You don't need to demonize Clinton against Warren. The real fight will be against the GOP Candidate.
No one is voting for either Hillary or E Warren.
Take your fighting spirit then and prepare for the fight that will matter in 2016.

(9,148 posts)Or you can remain deaf to my message to your insulting post.
Did you read what I said?
I would vote for E Warren in a heartbeat.
But to beat up anyone who poses another point of view as to our candidates, you now threaten to ban me??
Last I heard of DU, we are free to pose opinion &perhaps another point to discuss.
I suggested you put your promotion of EWarren to the real test. How will she fair when the gOP machine rolls out their candidate?
How is EWarren on Foreign Policy, for instance.
I suggested you begin preparing your answers & arguments for the day, should she become the 2016 candidate, for the fight that will be far greater than your badgering of Hillary Clinton.
Clinton is not Warren's problem. Warren will carry the party. But while you post as to Hillary's demons, there is a much greater fight you could be preparing you honorable fight for. That, my friend is the GOP.
Identify her weaknesses & Begin preparing you answers to those points that the GOP will set out to destroy her, or any Dem candidate with.
Your Hillary bashing on this site is not gaming you much traction, tell us how EWarren will destroy EVERY bomb the GOP sends her.
We know her fight against Wall Street. Now give me the rest.
Put EWarren up against the GOP. Convince me she can beat down everything they throw at her.
Use your strength & support to carry Warren all the way. There are greater battles to prepare for than Hillary Clinton.
You have beat that point to death.
Now take on the GOP vs E Warren.
That's the battle you really need to proove.
Do you understand? E Warren's success will be in the fight with the GOP in 2016.
Don't know how else to make the point, my friend.
The picture is far greater than Hillary Clinton.

(7,830 posts)And I certainly don't enable fake Democrats.

(9,148 posts)Keep on baiting. You can't even have a discussion. Clearly you have nothing but Wall Street then.
What is Warren's foreign policy ?
Time to trash your bogus baiting.
Good luck with answering the foreign policy question or all the other bombs the GOP will through at your candidate.
What will you say when Warren becomes the 2016 candidate & You have no answer for that or the many others you will have to fight for.
If you cannot answer me, who is very much for a Warren Presidency, how will you under the GOP when the fight gets dirty .
Its pretty easy to sit here on DU & Repeat the Warren vs Hillary mantra.
What do you have when the real fight takes place?
Good luck & & adios

(2,104 posts)In a lackluster race, as in Bush vs Clinton again, people don't want this, every time it's brought up, to anyone. Without any real fight, repubs will win. Everyone is Bush fatigued, even republicans that I talk to. They want to have someone else to vote for. But to ask them to go with someone they have already fought against, hated in office, is not an 'alternative'. Without a few repub votes, and a lot of extra energy to turn out the vote, something repubs beat us at, we will lose.
So I say Liz and maybe a couple of others will do it....a real alternative for everyone. That is not another Clinton. That's my take. Especially after the MoveOn and DFA polls. Clinton is third. That is the writing on the wall, from the foot soldiers. Without them, repub turnout will win, again.
