Who are the majority of rape victims? Our culture does not want to admit it
Fathers, sons, uncles, etc. The family that is supposed to be the best situation for a girl causes more rape than outsiders. It has been researched and found true. No wonder people like me do not like men in general. To tear apart a human soul, and that is what rape is within the family says something really ugly about our culture.

(855 posts)They put me through conversion therapy to stop me from being gay and were also physically abusive. And not supportive when I was sexually abused.
Not sure it matters though as far as qualifications to discuss this.

(6,193 posts)Females of a certain age send physical signals that the male brain interprets as fertility.
Signals the females themselves are not aware of.
In some species, that leads to intercourse and propagation of the species.
Us humans of course, are supposed to be aware of that, and above that.
Unfortunately . . .
Yes, the main male rape perpetrator is one from the family or close community.
Not defending it - just the opposite, males of all ages need to be made aware of those basic instinctive urges, and be given tools to avoid 'unfortunate' (rape) situations.
The 'Not in our family' approach doesn't wash, there needs to be open and frank discussions to explore the topic.
Fathers, mothers - talk to your sons. And your daughters, so they are aware of the danger signs.

(855 posts)Whether or not there is an imbalance or natural predisposition to be more accepting of people who are not men, its simply not healthy to hate an entire gender. I see a lot of these discussions pop up here on DU. Im all for airing frustrations as a victim, I certainly have, but promoting dislike or hate of a gender (misogyny or misandry) just isnt beneficial to anyone.

(2,926 posts)and when you have been in a situation where males are predominantly the aggressor there is no signal to pick up that says something is wrong here to protect the self as in a healthy relationship with family males. To be sexualized in a family does not help one recognize the problem male and avoid them. And in a family situation as a child that betrayal makes one not accept males as good in general.
I've known wonderful males that would not take advantage of a child but the reality there are plenty that would.

(855 posts)I certainly learned that the hard way. From both genders.
It still isnt normal or healthy to have an exaggerated response to either gender, but it is not *unexpected* that that happens to a victim. And, being a victim, particularly when being victimized by family who are ideally trustworthy protective caregivers, can raise the likelihood of being taken advantage of in the future and having a harder time distinguishing safe people with normal emotional spreads from people who are pathological.
On the quantity side, many may offend just isnt as easily quantified with a population this large. The majority wont, but with more people comes a proportionally higher number of offenders, and our country never even passed common sense reforms when they had the chance decades ago
so it had a cascading effect.

(855 posts)On average less problematic so its hard to argue. Its the reason enclaves and extra protections have been attempted for all of preserved history. It would be nice to think after 10,000 or so years things would have improved but here we are with a forced birth policy platform popular on one side of the political isle. From experience in the south in conservative circles growing up they have their own frustrations and exasperations about that even if their lexicon doesnt express it as easily in public. Thats also why Im a bit troll-watch-y when it comes to blanket statements on forums. Definitely not trying to be too argumentative since most people on this sub forum share your general sympathies.
