Teen flies plane after pilot collapses

A teenager was forced to take over the controls of a light plane and guide it to safety when the pilot passed out during a flight over NSW's central west on Saturday afternoon.

Troy Jenkins, 19, had to fly the single-engine Cessna 150 around in circles for 45 minutes above a small airport in Forbes before the pilot came to.

"I didn't really know how it was going to turn out," he told Nine News.

Pilot Derek Neville, a family friend, collapsed just 10 minutes into the recreational flight.

Mr Jenkins said he had taken the controls of the Cessna in the past while flying with Mr Neville but had landed it only once under the older man's supervision.
