Teens raise $$ for food programs
Two 16-yr-olds got the idea last September to raise money for food programs in the Raleigh, NC, area. They wanted to combine physical activity and a fun gathering for family and friends. They dubbed the event LIFT, as the effort sought to lift people up wherever they were.
After months of efforts, planning, and setbacks, the event finally came together on April 5th and they raised almost $12,000. The teens said they came away from the event with a new-found confidence to make good things happen and the rich happiness that followed. It just felt good."
Don Walston, owner of Howard Perry and Walston, said he was impressed that the boys were smart enough to start small to work out the kinks but still ended up raising a lot of money. If we had a bunch of kids like that in the world, it would be better, he said.
