(121,474 posts)meaning the air is dangerous for everybody. It smells like burning plastic and the visibility is very poor. It should blow away some time tomorrow but right now it's awful. Hope it doesn't come your way!

(38,726 posts)When the wind is not blowing, and there is an air inversion it often gets tough to breath outside. Especially, when the
wind is from the Southwest, directly from O'Hara Airport. (one of the busiest air ports in the world)
I should add that the air is cleaner than it used to be 20 years ago. Cars are much cleaner now than they were.
Coal is not burned in furnaces anymore, and factory pollution is much less than before. Trucks are also better, but some
are still bad. If the wind comes off of Lake Michigan, then the air is very clean. The lake is about 6 miles east of
where I live. The airport is about 8 miles Southwest of where I live. When planes head for New York City or Europe,
they fly over where I live. And the noise is very annoying.
Also...Very Important...Air Now publishes clean air reports for all areas of the country.

(58,785 posts)through and was gone. A particular mockingbird has been outsinging all the other birds on our little hill for the past few days. It's nesting season now, and we really hope or or they stay.
