hawks' nest (no live cam, though!)

Stopped to chat with a couple of neighbors yesterday, as we do around here. We were chatting about feeding the local wildlife (deer, squirrels, raccoons, fox and birds). As we were talking, a bird flew from the tree next to where we were standing. The man asked me if I had seen the hawk before, and then they went on to show me the nest high in the tree. Seems there has been a nesting pair there for the last several years. Last year there were three babies, who all survived!! I watched the male hawk soaring around, hunting. We joked about putting a cam up to watch the birds (like the decorah eagles), but decided that we don't want our neighborhood overrun.

It just made me smile to know we have a hawks' nest here, with neighbors who are watching out for it.

Watching the babies being born, watching intently almost to the point of obsession, (lol) that third eaglet who I thought was not receiving enough food goodies....and then it all turning out so well was so touching.

I would never leave the computer if I watched more live video feed of our amazing animal friends!

yesterday afternoon, ended up chatting with a young woman who was doing a product demo. she is from NC--and thinks all the people in the state house are nuts. we got to talking about the hawks, and the decorah eagles. she told me that last year, she was working in a gas station in creed (VERY small mountain community), and the tv there was set to the livecam of the eagles. I thought that was really cool.

are you hooked on the jaguar cubs, too?

I know we have mated pairs nesting around here. Some years I see the parents and a young hawk flying around.

Enjoy the hawks, and your neighbors!

We go to Central Park several times each month on weekends.

(I have a 1 second background appearance in "Pale Male" the movie available from Netflix.)

Pale Male has outlived 5 mates.
