Almost there!
I've known Debi and John for about 13 years. This bar was their life.
Last year, a fire destroyed not only the bar, but a convenience store and a restaurant next door. Prescott doesn't have the friendliest people living here, but the community came together to help the employees find jobs, helped rebuild and held a huge (and a helluva lot of fun!) fundraiser. People from all over the nation pitched in to help (The Bird Cage is infamous...heh).
Deb & John had their run-ins with the city during the rebuild. They were supposed to reopen on Jan. 1st, but the city kept dropping last minute changes, costs on the Stamms. Finally, it's all been worked out and we're on our way to getting our bar back. It isn't much, but a lot of good people hang out there. It's an enormous family that will help out friends and strangers alike. It's also where I met my husband when he played there about 10 years ago. Now, he's looking forward to playing there again. When my son joined the Marines, my Bird Cage family gave him a beautiful send off that included a plaque in his honor that hung on the wall for 9 years until the fire.
I don't like it in this town, but when I saw how so many fought to bring them back, it gave me a reason to hate Prescott just a little less. Humanity can be amazing.
If you happen to be headed out this way, let me know! I'll meet ya at 'The Cage'.
