How should progressives deal with the "best of evils" situation?

The left are continuously faced with this quandary. The radicalization of the Republican Party plays into the hands of the Powers To Be. As the Republican Party gets crazier the more conservatives switch to the Democratic Party bringing their conservative ideologies with them. The result is a strongly conservative Democratic Party. Therefore, often the choice is between a wacko clown and a conservative (masquerading as a Democrat). What does a progressive do when faced with that choice? Can we survive 8 more years of status-quo with the middle class being decimated?

Some fools are convinced that they continue to be free as long as the get to vote. I dont agree. Russians vote. Besides when the choice is death by cancer or death by a bullet, which do you choose? Which is the best of those evils?

1. Start by backing progressive candidates for school board, county board, town council, etc.

Get them some experience, some credibility, and then run the winners for State and Federal offices.

We need to reassert the grass-roots, rather than take orders (and candidates) from the top down. This is particularly relavent in Wisconsin right now.

Large protests, in cities across the nation. Knocking on doors, making phone calls. Grass roots activism.

We will never - never - be able to get the media to cover our message like they do for the right. The right owns the media and has $1,000 dollars to spend on it for every penny our side has.

trying to get the message out by supporting groups who can get visibility for issues we Democrats USED TO really...really care about. Aside from the Social Issues which are important...we Dems have Neglected the "New Deal Dem Issues" and allowed the Social Issues to get all the Activism and Support. While they are important issues, the other issues about Fair Wage for Work, Workers Issues of Pay for Hours Worked, Sick Time, Vacation Time, Right to Organize, Right to Protest, Finding way to Overcome BIG MONEY in our Elections, Gerrymandering, Verified Paper Ballot for Voting, Environmental Issues, Personal Rights as opposed to the Growing Presence of Surveillance, TSA Inspections and Monitoring of Citizens 24/7. Rights of Children to have Education that isn't controlled by Private Companies, Right to have our State Owned Taxpayer Paid for State Properties fall to Private Interests to buy out and for our Utilities not to be Manage by Private Corporations who have no interest in our States and Localities interests of the People... etc.

We Dems need to be more focused on ALL Of OUR RIGHTS so that the message will be INCLUSIVE and not SELECTIVE. (Not that selective groups haven't had to have extra attention by Democrats... and, that work should go on but we Dems have forgotten about or lost our way on "Focusing on the COMMON GOOD" to get broader support.)

message out. Protests without civil disobedience seems to me to be not effective. The public rarely pays any attention.

But my question in the OP is about the "Lesser of Evils" situation that progressive are continuing to get into. Should progressive vote for Ms. Clinton over Rand Paul? How about over Gov Christie?

Looks to me like the system is being manipulated to force a "Best of Evils" choice on the left.
