ABSOLUTELY VITAL public interest stories the media SHOULD be covering, but doesn't . . .
(x-posted from GD by request) - I've also written a blog on the subject here: http://www.sevenbowie.com/2013/11/absolutely-vital-issues-that-our-media-should-be-covering-but-isnt/_ _ _ _ _ _ _
Someone posted about the lame-ass garbage being presented on "60 Minutes" this Sunday. The corprat-owned propaganda-spewing media is designed to keep Americans entertained - and ignorant. And they're very good at that.
THESE are just a few of the stories the media should be covering but are not:
The John Birch Society, now known as the "Tea Party" (+Dominionists, KKK, NRA, et al), featuring Claire Conner and her book 'Wrapped in the Flag': http://claireconner.com/ - and how Fred Koch was one of its founders: http://www.jbs.org/fred-koch
ALEC - http://www.prwatch.org/news/2013/08/12202/groups-charge-alec-tax-fraud-over-secretive-scholarship-fund-finances-junkets-sta and http://www.alecexposed.org/wiki/ALEC_Exposed
KOCH BROTHERS vast web of funding to buy and control the U.S. government for their own benefit - http://dyn.politico.com/printstory.cfm?uuid=2AAD0995-04D3-40D9-905F-CD3C0F06AD13 and http://www.prwatch.org/news/2010/08/9396/american-politics-getting-all-koched
SPN - http://stinktanks.org/national/ and http://www.alecexposed.org/wiki/File:SPN_exposed_red.jpg

The ongoing Fukushima distaster and other environmental issues such as the decimation of bees: http://action.foe.org/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=14141
The MJIA and why it's needed - how sexual assault is an epidemic in our armed services and how badly this issue is being handled by them, including the film "Invisible War" about the issue. http://www.gillibrand.senate.gov/mjia
Why American wages are stagnated/lower than they were in the 1970s when adjusted for inflation and ALEC et al's efforts to drive them even lower, along with the TPP and other policies being pushed by corporate billionaires: http://www.aflcio.org/Blog/Economy/Just-How-Low-Can-Your-Salary-Go-117-ALEC-Bills-in-2013-Fuel-Race-to-the-Bottom-in-Wages-and-Workers-Rights
The TPP and America's Corporate Deathstar: http://truth-out.org/opinion/item/18115-mankind-death-by-corporation-part-iii-the-tpp-as-corporate-deathstar
The vast rightwing conspiracy that Hillary Clinton talked about and how it absolutely exists: http://www.motherjones.com/print/230071
How 'Legitimate rape' comments have their roots in flawed "research" by a Nazi anatomicist who dissected his own friends in the name of "science": http://www.slate.com/articles/life/history/2013/11/nazi_anatomy_history_the_origins_of_conservatives_anti_abortion_claims_that.html
PETE PETERSON AND HIS CAMPAIGN TO "FIX THE DEBT" OFF THE BACKS OF SENIORS BY GUTTING SOCIAL SECURITY: http://www.alternet.org/print/economy/pete-peterson-and-social-security and http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/19548-america-on-fire and http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Portal:Fix_the_Debt
VOTER SUPPRESSION AND GERRYMANDERING and the roots of this - all the way back to Jim Crow and Paul Weyrich:
The for-profit prison industrial complex and school-to-prison pipelines.
The dishonesty and malfeasance of the Insurance Industry in selling inferior policies to people that are not up to ACA standards - AFTER the ACA was passed into law - in a way that doesn't blame Obama but rather investigates Insurance Industry practices and features Wendell Potter and his book: "Deadly Spin"
WHO WAS BEHIND IT, AND FOR HOW LONG THE RECENT GOV'T SHUTDOWN HAD BEEN PLANNED: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/06/us/a-federal-budget-crisis-months-in-the-planning.html

Most people have never HEARD of:
ALEC
SPN
PETE PETERSON
AHIP
"Fix the Debt" ... and so on
Americans are blissfully ignorant of the factions and institutions which control their money, their health, their futures, their kids futures, and their lives. And believe me, our corprat-controlled media intends to KEEP it that way. They are PART. OF. THE PROBLEM. That being the case, they are not about to rat on themselves to the Public - so they don't cover these stories.
But really. Somebody should. And not just on the internet. But on MAINSTREAM MEDIA during PRIMETIME - like - say - 60 Minutes on Sundays? Yea. I won't hold my breath waiting for that.

(84,711 posts)1. Great Resource. Thanks Triana!
Your "StinkTanks" Link for those to find out who is operating in their State was the first time I'd seen that site, btw. Good to check out. All the other links, also.
And, if you catch any other articles that aren't being covered that would fit here in "Progressive Media Resources," please post!

(13,610 posts)2. Great list....
A network could put together 2 years worth of weekly news broadcasts with that material. I am quite up on the JBS connection. That is scary stuff. Let me change a word... "challenging" stuff.

(84,711 posts)3. BTW, Triana! Used one of your links for an Activist Group who needed
a link with info immediately for an issue they needed to address. They used it and it was good.
So your Post/Links have already done some good. Just so you know!
I'm very happy to know that!
