I'm obsessed with this movie. Anyone else have opinions, thoughts etc on it? I was a small kid in 1969, and a true crime aficionado

(113,797 posts)Loved it. Lived in that area in the late 70s to late 90s. Between the sets and the music I loved the trip back to LA. Story twist.......wow.

(13,734 posts)was it somewhat similar in the 70s? I'd love to live in Cali

(113,797 posts)for the most part.
By the time I left in the 90s I never wanted to wear high heels, or a tight dress, or go to another awards show EVER again.
The restaurants are what I miss the most.
XanaDUer2
(13,734 posts)yes, the diversity of restaurants. I miss that about Miami

(158,548 posts)I really enjoy watching movies on the big screen, and used to go about once a month.....I hope to be back....it can happen if enough people get their act together!

(95 posts)I used to go at least once or twice a month, or sometimes even more frequently, depending on what was playing. However, since my all-time favorite film, the original 1961 film version of West Side Story will be coming to select theatres nationwide here in the USA, courtesy of fathomevents.com and Turner classic movies, in late november and early december, I will attend both screenings to make up for it all. I'm excited!! Yay. No tickets are on sale, nor are any theatre locations set up as of yet, but I'm watching and waiting. I'm going, with or without anybody.
I have to admit that I saw the trailer of Steven Spielberg's upcoming film version of WSS, however, and was really not impressed, and do not plan to go and see it. Steven Spielberg's a good director and all, and he's done a lot of great films, but this one is something that I will take a miss on.

(95 posts)I, too miss going to the movie theatres and seeing movies on a great big, wide screen, as they're really and truly meant to be viewed. One of my favorite movie theatres is scheduled to re-open in a couple of weeks, with a bigger, better ventilation system, and limiting the number of people who can come into a movie theatre to 15% of their normal capacity, and not selling any concessions at the concession stand.
I think that a lot of movie theatres will do that.

(10,097 posts)I know, as contributors to an air check website, a guy who supplied many of the KHJ air checks.

(13,734 posts)were actual broadcasts back in the day? Not sure what an air check is

(10,097 posts)and then edited, sometimes called telescoping, to remove most of the music, and leave mostly what the jock said often called a set. These edited tapes are sent to other stations, with a resume, to get a job. Sometimes program directors also review them with a jock in a session where the performance is critiqued.
Sometimes fans just let a tape run and capture a whole show complete with music and commercials. Both types of recordings were used for the KHJ bits in the movie. They recordings in the movie were actual broadcasts, mostly from 1969, with some pieces from other years, but close in time to 1969. KHJ was the dominant Top 40 station in LA in the mid to late 60s and into the 70s.

(13,734 posts)There will be a director's cut. I look forward to that!

(4,962 posts)I seem to either love or despise/avoid his movies. This one goes into the love category along with Pulp Fiction and Inglorious Basterds.

(5,092 posts)For a few months waaaay back in the pre-covid days, I went to the movies every Tuesday. Its one of my days off and the theater ran a $5 special on Tuesdays. Score! I had never been to the movies by myself before and found I really enjoyed it.
The best movie I saw in those few months was OUaTiH.
It was so dang good, I took my mother to see it the following week.
I laughed my butt off during the big violent finale, a reaction that shocked, disturbed, and (eventually) amused me. I cried at the end thinking about what could have been. Such a good movie!
Mom is 70 and she loved it, too.
