&tThis appears to be real:
At 12:01 am this morning, the earliest iteration of one of the worlds most beloved childrens characters entered the public domain. Shortly thereafter, the trailer for a slasher film called Mickeys Mouse Trap was posted online.
In it, clips from Walt Disneys 1928 animated classic Steamboat Willie are shown interspersed with newly-shot footage that tells the story of a mouse mask-wearing killer who stalks college-age kids at an arcade.
Heres the logline: Its Alexs 21st Birthday, but shes stuck at the amusement arcade on a late shift so her friends decide to surprise her, but a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse decides to play a game of his own with them which she must survive.

Looks horrible but the concept is hilarious. There is also a game being made with a similar theme:

(68,173 posts)I remember back in the day, every mall used to have, usually located in the extreme polar regions of its most underused wing, a large arcade blinking and thrumming with the sights and sounds of console video games. Hugely popular hangouts for the kids either after school, or while their parents were shopping.
Haven't seen one like it in decades. I can't imagine they still exist, not with home video game systems, and streamed programming.

(23,991 posts)Disney characters w/ such horror antics. I suspect Disney will soon be after them, and sue them (the creators of this horror content).
Disney is very aggressive in going after anything that taints their family cartoons, movies, etc. They been a long time doing this sort of thing, suing all, etc. to protect their reputation etc.
There is a 'black market' for off Scale Disney artifacts (as a long time collector of Disney materials, I have picked up a couple of 'odd' Disney things). As you can imagine, this market is not very big or sizable.
