2. Me, too.

I took all kinds of pills for about 7 years. They all made me sick. I finally asked the doc to just give me insulin as I felt that was a more natural way than beating the hell out of my pancreas with pills. Last A1C was 7.2 which is not bad for a 75-yr-old. Have been diabetic for 26 years now. I limit my biggest meal of the day to 60 carbs. I eat about 130 carbs per day. Not fun but what can you do? It is a lousy disease to have. Keep at it. I have found that a Diabetes Educator can be more helpful than the doc in some cases. You can live with this disease. You just have to learn how. My best wishes for you.

If not, the doctor should give you one at your next appointment.

Someone posted a link to a blog in a thread here about testing, and it was very helpful. I'm sharing it below.

I've done extensive testing after eating to determine which foods spike my levels, and which foods don't. Doctors give lots of advice, but the patients are the ones who have to manage the diabetes. Meds help, so does changing or modifying ones diet. But testing helps us figure out which foods are best and worst for us. For example, I learned I can have 1/2 a bagel, but if I have a whole one my numbers spike. I can eat brown rice, but not pasta. Some folks eat what they want because they are taking meds, but I think it's better to control it by diet as much as possible. Good luck.
Keep us posted.

9. Regarding a Dexcom

my question for us folks on insulin is: We can see our BS but can't do much about it. I take 4-hour insulin with meals and there is no adding or subtracting the insulin on board. If it is going too low one can eat something but if too high one must wait for the full 4 hours to pass. Can you explain how the Dex helped you? And do you take oral meds or insulin? Thanks.

It a lot easier to deal with my diabeties is following a keto diet. I highly suggest you look into it and cut as many carbs as you safely can out of your food intake. Experiment with non sugar sweeteners.
I use stevia as my sweet source. But there are tons of kinds and mixtures out there.
Another recommend is Sola brand low carb bread and Holista low glycemic pasta.

Also there is berberine and fenugreek they have anti diabetic properties.
Don't give up
It gets easier over time.

My A1C was 10.6. I went very low carb… a1C is now 5.4 and holding… no meds. It is possible.

But I've gotten mine down with Januvia, once-a-day insulin pen (can't remember the name after a third name switch LOL), Mounjaro and a lower-carb diet. Not super low-carb, Keto or what have you, but lower than even the recommended ADA diet. Exercise is also essential. Just 30 minutes a day will do the trick.

Are you a newbie diabetic? If so, don't freak about that number. If you heed your doctor's advice about meds, diet and exercise, it will come down. These modern diabetes treatments and approaches are really impressive. You're lucky to be alive with such advances in how to combat it.
