He came through surgery fine and was at a local nursing home for rehab. They even had him up for assisted walking at least once a day. But infection set in and he didn't make it. It's really, really tough.

He wouldn't use the walker and was set to get rid of "the stick".

He was very confused.

I tried to tell him, I tried but he did not listen.

He fell and broke his right hip. He seemed to tolerate the surgery ok but ... sepsis some how set in and that was more or less the end of him.

He was transferred from the hospital to hospice. He was there for almost one week and he was tended to 24/7. I am glad I was able to provide that for him.

He died last night.

It was a such a hell.

I don't know if Catholics have a great outreach program, or at least their last church didn't. They'd pretty much just offer to come to your house and give communion.

Check with their local parish. Catholics are very good at outreach and social justice. Obviously, things vary among individual parishes. You can also call the parish and ask about the St. Vincent De Paul society. They are generally geared toward helping the poor, but they tend to be very resourceful in other areas as well.
