Courtney Williams Shines as Lynx Take Center Stage in WNBA Finals

NEW YORK -- For Courtney Williams, the moment she proudly claimed the title of best basketball player in her family is a cherished memory. It all began over a decade ago when she broke her mother Michele Williams' single-game scoring record at Charlton County High School in Folkston, Georgia, a mere 40 miles from Jacksonville, Florida.

Since then, Williams has been a force to reckon with; whether at South Florida in college basketball or as a headlining first-round draft pick in the WNBA in 2016, her impressive journey has led her to the WNBA Finals for the third time.

On Thursday night, Williams stepped onto the grandest stage of her career as the Lynx executed a dramatic comeback to clinch a nail-biting 95-93 overtime victory over the New York Liberty in Game 1 of the Finals. Williams showcased her scoring prowess with 23 points, along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Her defining moment came with just 5.1 seconds remaining in regulation when she sank a crucial 3-pointer, followed by a free throw that completed a phenomenal four-point play. As noted by the Elias Sports Bureau, this marked an unprecedented feat—being the first instance in WNBA history where a team took the lead due to a four-point play in the dying seconds of the game.
