Pulse of DU poll 1: are killings and imprisonment of Black Americans a major problem?

I think it would be interesting to see where DUers agree and disagree on the issues around the recent activities that have caused so much upheaval on DU. To that end, I hope to run a few polls on various topics. Please: no accusations or argument, just use post comments that elaborate on your vote or that critique the poll itself.

Note that this post lives in the Populist Reform of the Democratic Party group. I am a host of the group, but will not use my position to either ban posters, nor will I converse with other hosts regarding this post. And if the other PRDP hosts see fit to lock this OP for any reason, that's fine. My only hope is that the other hosts see fit to moderate comments towards the end of furthering the cause of constructive engagement towards a populist reform of our Democratic Party.

I'll continue these polls if they're of interest and are not disruptive.

Now on to the first poll... this should be pretty straightforward:

how do you feel about the rate at which Black Americans are being killed and imprisoned?

In future polls, we'll try to tease out what people mean by a critical issue is vs an important issue, but for now let's say that critical means must address immediately, while important means should address, but not necessarily immediately.

Update: If you think this is a useful exercise, please rec this post so it gets visibility and we get a good sample.

Thanks.

a bit misleading, since you don't distinguish between cop killings that may be justified from cop killings that are unjustified and from just plain ol' murder between drug dealers or by drunken abusers.

But, no matter how they are killed, it is still too many.

And far too many are in jail.

they pale in comparison to ruining black lives by throwing so many of them into prison for "crimes" that would result in probation and community service for white kids.

This is wrong. It's also how they managed to blunt the effects of the Civil Rights Acts so mediocre white males didn't have to face competition.

Much of it made up of black men in jail on non-violent charges. If we're trying to show the world how a free country lives, we're doing it wrong.
