My nephew stopped by the other day and had a few clones (I forget the strain) that he did not need and wanted to see if I wanted them. I have plans for a second indoor grow but am waiting for him to have some extra of a purple strain... I so love the purple strains... So we decided to give these a little outdoor go of it.
We dropped them into a single holes so they will kind of 'bush out'. He tells me it will be several months before they flower and that when they do (assuming they live and I don't kill them), they'll grow really big... A good 5+ feet tall. My indoors I did on my first grow were only about 3.5 feet tall.
I'll update with pics as they go along and also get the name of the strain from him... He did tell me but I forget

(1,662 posts)I one of the best things about growing cannabis is how easy it is. I found it way easier than growing tomatoes

(24,107 posts)more about the growing etc. of this (I'm not really planning on doing so, just curious). Being a natural weed in this Country, I suspect that it grows fairly easily.

(465 posts)You can only grow up to 5 plants if you have a Medical Cannabis ID, and those are supposed to be in an area not open to public view and "secure from unauthorized access," particularly to anyone under 21.
Just an fyi in case you have nosy or troublesome neighbors. ☮️✌️

(21,894 posts)They are in a fenced in backyard (about 5ft fence with the vines sticking another 1.5 feet) that is covered by grape vines... Also, they are in with a lot of other plants, that whole area (about 30ft by 10ft) is different stuff we try to grow. They are pretty well covered Thanks!
Still waiting for Indiana to get with it over here. Luckily, I drive to my mom's in Illinois every 4-6 weeks which is only about 5 miles from the local dispensary.

(21,894 posts)So my nephew was by again on Monday night and had a few more plants he was going to toss, so I tossed them in another hole:
Sheesh... They look pretty pathetic after a few days there but... We'll see what happens. These are one of my favorite strains, Strawberry cough. I really hope they make it but I'm not agonizing if they don't as my nephew is growing a bunch of it and is going to give me some
This is an update on the first batch we put in... Just a touch bigger, a long way to go yet:
It's amazing how much slower they grow outside compared to the very regulated lighting/feeding of growing them indoors. And yeah... I should get rid of the weeds around them

(9,272 posts)You would not take 8 tomato plants and plant them all together. Good soil is the key to large plants - chicken manure = monster plants.

(21,894 posts)I do an indoor grow... You can see pics from my first harvest here:

Plus, my nephew does a legal grow here in Colorado so... I pretty much always have way more weed than I can use. My brother wanted to see if putting them all in the ground together would create a 'weed bush' so we are giving it a go

(21,894 posts)Sadly... The second batch I put in, that was still looking small last time has in fact died. But... My nephew said he expects to have some more to try a second group one more time, maybe next week. I like how this group is filling out though. We are not doing anything special to them... We tossed them in the hole and have been watering them, that is it. I like how they are coming along though

(21,894 posts)So... Yeah, they are getting pretty big. And on a close look, that may be some buds starting to grow, we'll see

(3 posts)They're looking pretty good. I've never grown them myself but an old roommate had the magic touch. When I moved out, my bedroom became a high-tech grow room. He was really into it.

It's getting to be a jungle in our garden, so a bit tough to get good pictures... The damn sunflowers attract tons of bees and I have a genocidal war going on with bees, sometimes they win, somtimes I do and today is a bad day for me to go up against them. I was getting swarmed... That is a story for another day though But!!! Yes, those are definitely some little buds growing there. I'm very excited

(29,856 posts)Have you ever used black strap molasses for fertilizer? I have used it and to me it makes the buds bigger. I mix around 1/2 teaspoon to a gallon of water and water my plants once or twice during the plants life cycle with this mixture.
Blackstrap molasses is high in calcium, magnesium, iron, and potassium. It also contains sulfur and a host of micronutrients. Using molasses as fertilizer provides plants with a quick source of energy and encourages the growth of beneficial microorganisms.

(21,894 posts)I have had a lot going on recently and missed taking some pics but I hope to get some more on this thread Monday or Tuesday. They are getting pretty big (the buds) and looking very nice. My nephew advises we wait until first frost before we harvest, he says it is fine to let them grow. So... Probably looking at somewhere between the end of September and mid October but weather can be funny out here and it may come sooner. I'm thinking I might snip off a small bud from lower down and try it out though... If I can, I'll do it tomorrow, let it dry a bit and include pics of that with my next upload.
For these plants, I've used nothing except water, and they are doing fine. My indoor grow, I do use several nutrients I get from my nephew but they are usually in spare containers when he brings them over... He'll tell me the measurements and routine to add them but I don't know what they are, only that it's the same stuff he uses at work.

(21,894 posts)There is a lot of green around the plants and I suck at taking pics but the buds are bigger than they appear here. Also, for a good ten feet all around the plants it is flooded with the smell of weed. They are also super sticky, more so than any of the indoor ones I've grown. We're definitely waiting till first frost to harvest them so they should have another few weeks. Not a bad little crop for plants that were going to be tossed I might try clipping off one small bud and drying it but there is just a lot going on right now so... We'll see, but if I do I'll take pics.
