Cannabis is not the pain killer some hoped it would be.....

https://www.sciencealert.com/cannabis-for-pain-relief-review-of-20-studies-provides-sobering-results

"Although cannabis (and cannabis-derived products, such as CBD) may be widely used for reducing pain, how effective it really is in doing this is still unclear. This is what our recent systematic review and meta-analysis sought to uncover.

Our study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, suggests cannabis is no better at relieving pain than a placebo.

There are numerous examples of the relationship between treatment expectations and placebo responses. If a person thinks they will experience relief from their pain by using a certain product or treatment, this can change the way they end up perceiving incoming pain signals – making them think their pain is less severe. Recent evidence suggests that the placebo effect may work even if we're presented with evidence that contradicts our initial expectations."

*My own personal experience over the last 30 years supports this theory. I have tried it for everything from menstrual cramps and migraines to pancreatitus and it has never reduced any of my pain. It helps me sleep at night and that is with 90% Indica so that is why I use it.

it wasn’t so much reduction of pain as it was a ‘disconnect’ between the pain and constant awareness of it.

He said it doesn't stop the pain, it just stops you from thinking about it all the time.

To say cannabis is no better than a placebo…that’s smack talk by big pharma. does it work for everyone, no. This true of every drug as well. no one thing works for everyone.

Very disappointed that the current administration did not reclassify it. I wonder what will have in the next few years?

With the patches I get for chronic and arthritis flareups, the whole spectrum of cannaboids and terpenes are meant to work together....

I also agree with the ability to dissociate is key in much of pain relief.

Wish we could get it off the Schedule I list and get REAL science studies

My personal experience is that it didn't help with pain but it did help me with getting to sleep easier.

It's not worth the expense since there are sleep aids which are much cheaper. But I accept free CBD samples when offered them.

I still have difficulty sleeping. My doctor said I have "industrial strength insomnia". Even if I take over the counter sleep meds, Ambian and another pill and I still suffer. So I smoke 90% Indica at night before bed and when I wake up 3 hours later and have to take them all all over again (twice a night). This is ridiculous. It takes 12 hours tonget 8 hours of sleep.

I haven't been able to sleep well since Middle School (that long ago).

15. Raw Cannabis is an alternative...

Raw or fresh cannabis is a little different than what most people use. Availability is probably the biggest problem, it’s best if you grow your own or have a trusted source for raw product so you know for sure it’s completely free of any pesticides or leftover fertilizer, these will negate any positive effects of the raw vegetable. Yes, cannabis is a vegetable.

Raw cannabis provides a number of outstanding nutritional benefits. However, it will not get you high. There is no psychoactive component to raw cannabis because heat must be applied to activate THC or tetrahydrocannabinol. In its raw form, cannabis contains THCA– the precursor to THC and CBDA the precursor to CBD. In order for THCA/CBDA to convert into THC/CBD heat must be applied. This process if often referred to as decarboxylation. So raw cannabis can be consumed without psychoactivity. Which is great news for patients who need high concentrations of cannabinoids in their diet.

As cannabis research steps out of the shadows and into the light, more information is being unveiled regarding the therapeutic properties of the cannabis plant. In fact, it is now believed that THCA* may play a pivotal role as an anti-inflammatory. Some studies suggest THCA* may even be neuroprotective and can prevent cancer. While there is currently not enough research to definitively say the degree in which THCA* acts as an anti-inflammatory, preliminary research and anecdotal evidence indicate this cannabinoid contains powerful therapeutic properties. Because THCA* is only present when cannabis isn’t heated, consuming raw cannabis is an excellent way to nourish the body with this healthy cannabinoid.

*To complete the “entourage” effect CBDA is also present, newer studies show that the combination is more potent.

I’m working on a post that will explain further.

It made me not care so much, much easier to handle the pain. What I did find is that it really helped my anxiety, and of course getting to sleep which is how I was using it illegally for many years. So now I legally smoke strong indicas for sleep because otherwise I don't sleep, and a balanced hybrid with strong caryophyllene (sp?) helps me deal with anxiety during the day. This also helps when anxiety spikes & makes me unable to eat.

I smoke only before bed and when I wake up throughout the night. And this is WITH Ambian. I have "industrial strength insomnia" according to my doctor who also has insomnia, so he knows what I go through.

91% Indica helps.
