Related: About this forumSpace buckets/small grow options.
I'm looking into trying a small grow in my closet. I've been reading the site www.spacebuckets.com, and also their corresponding subreddit. Based on the small amount of research I've done, it looks like the best options for me would be:
-5 gallon buckets (x4 to get desired height)
-a "UFO" style round LED light.
-Strip LED lighting for side-lighting (the kinds of light strips you see decorating houses for Christmas)
-a couple of 110/220 fans--a step up from PC fans that aren't capable of handling airflow with a carbon filter.
-a homemade carbon filter
-reflective coating (mylar?) for the inside of the buckets.
What am I missing here? Has anyone else tried the bucket method, and if so, can you tell me the pros and cons?
I appreciate any advice anyone can give me; I'm used to being on the other side of the MMJ sales counter, so this is all new to me.

(9,664 posts)I reckon they cover every item on your list, but obviously would cost more than putting it together yourself.

(12,530 posts)Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry it's taken me as long as it has to reply back, but this forum doesn't seem to move very quickly anyway.
So I bought all the supplies for a space bucket, including a 185W UFO LED that goes in the lid, and a 15' strip of LED lights with adhesive back that spirals around the inside of the bucket for additional and fill lighting. Midway through making the bucket, I decided the yield wouldn't be nearly enough. So I ordered a 32x32x60 tent, along with 2 LED's (one at "300W", one at "600W", but both together make an actual wattage of 400W, which should be optimal for the 32x32 space. The bucket? Well, I didn't want to leave it unfinished, so I finished it, and I'm kind of proud of it. Someone close to me just received a very pleasant surprise with the gift of a fully functional space bucket complete with a Romulan Grapefruit clone.
Meantime, my plants finally went into the tent late last night. With fairly powerful intake and outlet fans installed, I'm still at about 86F. I think I'll install one more exhaust fan. I hope you enjoy the SuperCloset.

(3 posts)My buckets have ranged from 3 gal to 5 gal. I have used both cfl and LED. Got the best from LED and the most from cfl, although i contribute it to a combination of lights and plant genetics. My space is 3' x 3'. I fit two buckets. Don't forget quality nutes. Enjoy!!

(12,530 posts)Please see my reply to poster #1 above. I ended up going with a 2.5'x2.5' tent. I'm running 400 real watts of LED, running a little hot for now. I also have 2 plants. Since our tent sizes are similar, I was wondering what kind of yield you're getting from your two plants.
Also, I'm in 3-gallon "smart pots", or permeable airflow pots. In your estimation, should I be using larger pots since I just have two plants? I started off thinking I'd grow 4 in that space. Everyone told me that was a bad idea, but I bought the smaller pots when I had the quantity of 4 in mind.
Thanks for the reply, gomez.

(3 posts)Me, I want kick ass weed. My LEDS seem to do that for me. My grows are for me and whoever shows up in my home and is looking for an illegal smile. My last great LED grow for two plants yielded almost 225 grams. That was some kickass couch lock. Like i said previously, genetics plays a huge part in all this. Those plants came from un-femed seeds. Now i use femmed only and yield has dropped off a little. I have moved my grow to the bathtub (unused bathroom) and 400 watt HPS & MH so we shall see. One word of advice...never ever let any one know you're growing. Keep it as stealth as possible. I've been growing for over 20 years and not even my best friend knows. It's just to much temptation for someone with that info to f%*k you over.
