Cannabis
Related: About this forumHas anybody here given cannabis to their pet?
I have a cat with bladder cancer. He is getting both traditional chemotherapy and a a mixture of chinese mushrooms, amino acids and CBD. I am wondering if anyone else has experience with this. After three chemo treatments and the mixture his tumor shrunk by 75%, but he lost two pounds and has not gained it back, so his vet doesn't want to continue the chemo until he gains more weight. In the meantime, it seems that his tumor is growing back, because I found a drop of blood next to his litter box. I read that THC can be toxic to small animals, but I am wondering if any other cannabinoids besides CBD might be helpful (if available). Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I give cbd oil to my little boy dog Charlie for the arthritis in his hips. Works great!

She doesn't seem as shaky and nervous during that.

(3,163 posts)She's our little "eveready battery" cat. Survived heartworm, several bouts of pancreatitis, loss of kidney function (down to 20% function) and intestinal lymphoma (over 4 years now). Appetite became an issue and some sort of discomfort was keeping her restless and noisy at night. CBD keeps her calm and has done wonders for her appetite.

(52,211 posts)I had to take her to Emergency and it cost $500. I gave her a tiny bit of wax and she was screwed up seriously. They have special pet products at my dispensary so if I did it again I would go to them. My vet isn't sure about using it since it isn't studied and researched yet and there are too many "unknowns". The people at the dispensary were able to explain it to me and I trust their experience and knowledge. They have a large variety of pet products.

(9 posts)Hi,
never posted here before just like to lurk around but I figured I'd give some info since I had recently talked about this with a friend.
We were chatting a while back and she mentioned that she had seen some evidence of improvement in some cases in her clinic where some owners had given cannabinoids to their pets with cancer. Her opinion was that if your pet is that sick you don't have much to lose by trying. There are cannabinoids without THC so if you can find them they may make a complementary treatment to your pets chemo. It may be worth while discussing with your vet.
going back to lurking now.

(1,701 posts)I watched a you tube video about a cat with bladder cancer who took a 2:1 ratio of CBD to THC and it cured his cancer. I am thinking of doing that, since the CBD derived from hemp doesn't have the same medicinal effects as that derived from flower, which also contains other cannabinoids.
I really am at my wits' end. My cat is 15 1/2 years old and he is very dear to me, but his chemo treatments are very expensive, and he is not cured yet. I am scared to experiment on my own, since I know that you have to be very careful with THC and small animals. What I find absurd is that while cannabis is legal in my state for both medicinal and recreational use, it is not legal for veterinarians to prescribe it, or even to recommend it. This apparently is the case in many other states, too.
