Somebody here talked about making cannabutter in a soy milk maker.

I'm now--long after the discussion here--looking for information about that. Anybody tried using a soy milk maker for butter/coconut oil infusing?

Looking to start making my own, and it seems easier than a stove top boil.

Ideas, suggestions, comments?

Thanks in advance!

1. I've seen the "boiling water on the stove top" method

and it tends to stink up the house.

What I've seen work is to make Keif first using dry ice (where legal of course)... then directly mix the kief into melted buffer and strain using drip coffee filters. Tends to work really well, or so I'm told. Doesn't stink up the house either.

You can use grinders to make keif... but much faster and easier is a keif bag and dry ice. Pick the micron size opening you want for the keif (anywhere from light golden to dark green... the light golden is the best but also the smallest yield).

There are many videos online for all of this.

If the soy milk maker video comes up... I'll be interested to hear how it works.

2. No idea but a crock pot is good for the simmer when doing the water method.

Which I highly recommend for its scent free butter.

Doesn't that stankify your house? I swear, last time I carbolized I thought that left a hefty smell behind. Kinda wondering about the cannabutter project for the same reason!

I remember trying the stovetop boil thing years ago, and my memory is of a bunch of soggy greasy ditchweed in my refrigerator next to a bowl of what smelled like nasty bong water with a fairly thin scum of congealed butter on top... That was long before youtube or even a public internet! Now I'm old and can afford and find useful toys and small appliances.

4. Well a covered crockpot isn't as bad as an open simmer and you don't have to watch it.

Didn’t you strain in before putting it in the fridge? That’s the whole point! I strain it into a Pyrex measuring bowl becasue wider shaped ones work terribly. If you do a stick plus of butter a bit it works out into a nice clean disc.

"Seems like a waste of good weed to just wring it out and toss it." Now, I'd probably dehydrate it and make crackers out of it just for the fiber. LOL! Advancing years and "frugality" don't ya know...

Sounds like a good work day "set it and forget it" crockpot recipe.

Thanks!

9. You strain it. Use a spoon to press it out, then give it an extra rinse or two w boiling water.

If you do it right, there’s no reason to do anything w the shake or the skank water. Throw them in a garden or down the toilet. Useless.

How long do you cook it and at what temp? What has worked for you?

time consuming, messy and odoriferous. Decarb 2-3 oz. of trim for 60 min. @ 220 degrees F. Melt 1 pound of butter in your crock-pot, add 2-3 oz of trim on low setting for 24 hours. Stirring every few hours and always making sure the temp doesn't exceed 240 degrees. Great result, but time consuming and untidy. After looking for a more efficient method, I came across Levo Oil Infuser. Now that's all I use to make Cannabutter, Cannaoil and Cannaghee. I've had to adjust my ratios, times and purchase an extra pod (were you place your trim) but it has paid off!!! Money well spent!!!
