(76 posts)Fun and unique towns. Both are walking towns. I have seen more than one person visiting, excited to be able to openly get and use pot. Or take the train from Eugene up to Seattle, hitting Portland on the way.

(1,033 posts)...minus the Midwestern work ethic and minus the quality education system. I've spent a lot of time in both states. Mostly, the people are very similar with the two exceptions I noted. Very laid back and very friendly. Both have rural areas that are much more conservative. Oregon is very scenic while Minnesota has mosquitoes the size of eagles. Carried my brother away they did.

(51,308 posts)Ill need to find decently priced hotels too, and Ill wanna know things to see from a locals point of view...
The Space Needle and Pike Place Market are usually at the top of every tourist's 'must-see' list.
The Space Needle is located in the middle of Seattle Science Center, with a number of different pavilions dedicated to bringing scientific concepts and applications to a broad, diverse audience. Be sure to add the science center to a trip to the Needle.
Gasworks Park on Lake Union.
Visit Fremont, a lively, very liberal neighborhood north of downtown. The Fremont Troll, located under a bridge, naturally, is an excellent example of urban art. Fremont also boasts a statue of Lenin, a not-very-subtle poke at Fremont's left-leaning politics. Someone painted the statue's hands blood-red to remind visitors that Lenin was no squishy, kum-bah-yah liberal. There is also 'Waiting For The Interurban', a cluster of statues representing light-rail commuters at one of Fremont's streetcar stops. Half a block away is a statue memorializing J.P. Patches, a beloved children's television clown and variety show host. It depicts him and his sidekick running to catch the aforementioned interurban.
In a city famous for the arts, there are so many art museums, professional and community theaters, and art festivals, you'll never get a chance to visit them all. Read 'The Stranger', Seattle's progressive underground newspaper, to help you plan art outings.
Seattle is the birthplace of Starbuck's, but since a Starbuck's in Seattle is little different than a Starbuck's in, say, Budapest, stick with the smaller, local, family, or cooperatively-owned coffee shops.
The famed 'Seattle Underground Tour' is a bit of a tourist trap, but it's fun, and an interesting way to learn about Seattle's early history. It originates in a bar near Pioneer Square, (the 'Square', by the way, is triangular...)
Woodland Park Zoo, erstwhile home of the world-famous Bobo the gorilla.
Head across I-90 (over the world's largest floating bridge) to Bellevue for excellent high-end dining and shopping. Bellevue has been named the Most Walkable City In America, and so naturally is very pedestrian-friendly.
If small clubs for listening to up-and-coming bands is your thing, I recommend the Nectar Lounge, The Tractor, The Crocodile in Belltown, and the Triple Door.
Travel up to Kerry Park on lower Queen Anne Hill, and face south for the 'Frasier View', a close approximation of the view from Frasier's condo on the self-titled sitcom. (The view shown on the 'Frasier' set is actually a composite photograph.)
Broadway on Capitol Hill is the epicenter of Seattle's thriving gay scene. Lots of great restaurants, shops, and clubs.
That would make for a good start...

Ill buy you a bottle of wine!
Aristus
(68,557 posts)Speaking of which, there are tour companies that operate trains taking visitors from Seattle to the heart of Washington's wine country. You can sip, taste, buy a couple of cases of wine, then take the train back to the city. Some of Washington's dessert wines are legendary.

(1,474 posts)I must say that I truly miss the sweet prices, variety, and true OG from Oregon where I lived until 2 years ago, but the flower here in Vegas is nevertheless good stuff. There are about a dozen shoppes near the strip, many more around greater LV, not to mention the rest of the state.
I look forward to the day when cannabis can legally cross state borders. Bringing in that California Grass will surely drop prices a bit.
(Right now, a quality eighth = about $45)

Plenty of Reasonable Hotels on Freemont Street. Main Street,Golden Nugget. You also have the Stations Casino Hotels which are clean and cheap. Go on line, signup up for a Players Card and get tons of freebe's. Couple of the Joints are just blocks from Dispensaries. Go a new Drive Thru opening next month or February on the Ute Res north west valley on hwy 95 and Snow mountain. BTW,they now have a Drive thru on Main Street in Old Vegas.
Google has the locations of most of the Weed Shops.

(16,159 posts)town (25,000 more or less) has at least 20 shops. And a surplus of cannabis. Prices are way lower (including taxes) than they were before recreational was legal by far. Cant verify if this was true, but I heard one shop actually had a sale a month or so back (an ounce for $25).

(55 posts)I've had a medical card on two separate occasions, but yet even now, I still kinda act like it's still illegal. I never grew plants in fear of some bureaucratic mistake, or getting burglarized (again).
The most important thing besides the health benefit is that the police can't bust whoever they feel like. The usage rate is the same, yet the incarceration rates are not even close.
Downtown Hound
(12,618 posts)First state to legalize medical weed. Would have been the first to legalize recreational too except it was the pot growers who killed that in 2012 because they didn't want to be taxed.
I'm really happy that it's legal here and our bud is extremely high quality. But the ironic thing was I actually liked it better when it was just medical. Medical cards were SUPER EASY to get, and we didn't have the insanely high taxes on pot that we do now since it became legal recreationally. And the edibles were much better too. Legal recreational use meant putting everything under much tighter regulations, and you can't get some of the really kick ass edible shit that you used to be able to get when it was just medical.
Still though, we have great selection, great quality, and tons of it available. And CA is one damn beautiful state. Redwood forests, amazing coastline, lakes, rivers, hills, and deserts. Great place to get high.

a rather red area of a, supposed, Blue state. After 4 months I am still waiting for my mmj approval number. Thats needed before I can even see a dr for a recommendation. My problem is the $200-250 drs fee. Oh yeah, the answer to the question is a big, fat NO on adult use. And the stigma is still alive and well here! My wife is not cool with mmj. I tell her I could cut down, maybe even eliminate, on my opiates. To her its substituting one crutch for another. Thats why I may have to suck it up and wait another 2/4 years for adult use. 😢😫 Of course Im hearing about states that will legalize adult use, about 8. And, wouldnt ya know it, Maryland ISNT one of them. NOT FUCKING MARYLAND! Some people love the state they live in. Im not one of them. I hate this state, FUCKING HATE IT. 62% of the citizens want legalization. To that a delegate, an (R) said we dont legislate based on polls. Well I guess that would depend on the question being polled.

(2,678 posts)after 30 states legalized some form of cannabis that feds would do cannabis reform. Nope! They, stubbornly, hold on to that Nixon era Schedule I status. Lots of things have changed in close to 50 years. Not that one, though. 👿
peacefrogman
(76 posts)they are discussing employers not able to drug test for pot. Both those are loosening up the Fed hold, I believe. I do not think it will be long before the Feds change their position.
GWC58
(2,678 posts)to have much of a choice. For one thing the Feds dont have the resources to go into each state. And without local, state help its all the more harder. 🤔🥴

In 2014 I voted Heather Mizear, who was for legalizing. Anthony Brown won, but lost to Republican Larry Hogan. Hes not for adult use and will, most likely, fight this issue the next four years. And Im fairly sure Hogan will do everything in his power to keep it off the ballot as a voter referendum. Shit!!! 😡😡😡😡 What a time to re-elect a D- NORML rated governor. Too bad Ben Jealous didnt win. Hogan is about as anti cannabis as they come. As an addendum I just heard that the Maryland Senate & House (of Delegates) are working on bills to legalize adult use cannabis or, in their words, Recreational marijuana use. Even if passed it would, surely, face a Hogan veto. Hope springs eternal! 😃🥴

(2,678 posts)nor do I live near one. Well, technically, I do; Washington, DC has legalized cannabis. Thanks to the last Congress, specifically Representative Andy Harris, R/MD-1, the District is blocked, by Congress, from setting up a regulated market. Hopefully, fingers crossed, by autumn 2019 the rider ends. 👍🏻
