Beijing says US legalization of marijuana is a 'threat to China'
By Yong Xiong and Ben Westcott, CNN
Updated 1337 GMT (2137 HKT) June 17, 2019
Beijing (CNN) Beijing's leading drug enforcement body has blamed the legalization of marijuana in Canada and parts of the United States for a spike in the amount of drugs smuggled into the country, describing it as a "new threat to China."
At a press conference in Beijing Monday, Liu Yuejin, deputy director of the China National Narcotics Control Commission, said that the number of cannabis users in China had grown by more than 25% in 2018, rising to about 24,000 people.
Liu Yuejin, deputy director of the China National Narcotics Control Commission, at a press conference on Monday June 17.
"In two years, we have found increasing cannabis trafficked from North America to China," he said, though he conceded there were "few cannabis abusers in China" relative to the total population.
According to Liu, China intercepted 115 packages sent through international postal parcels, containing a total of "55 kilograms (1940 ounces) of cannabis and cannabis products" in 2018.

US and the British forced opium on China to make huge profits for the Capitalist. See The Opium Wars.

Excuse me ?
The Opium Wars (both of them) 1839-1842 and then 1856-1860 were fought between the BRITISH (as proxy for the East India Tea Company) and the Qing Dynasty.
Entire encyclopedic tomes have been written on the subject.
Do your homework and read a few. Leave the US out of this, it wasn't an American incursion.

(34,090 posts)4. See treaty of Wangxia 1844.
The US was involved in the opium trade long before the Opium Wars. We found away around the war, but we were still pushing dope in China. You might want to dig a little deeper.

More believable would be something akin to:
China's leadership fears its citizenry having more options.
