Is that also true for weed cartridges?

(7,582 posts)There is an oil thats used on the vaping solutions for liquid vaping. That oil is causing respiratory problems. This was according to an article on last Sundays NYT. While that oil might or might not be an ingredient in THC vaping solutions, there is no such oil when vaping cannabis flowers.
Phoenix61
(17,716 posts)Not saying it should be there, just that it was in some of the solutions that caused illness.
BigmanPigman
(52,344 posts)but they say smoking changes it. I wanted to know if this applied to weed/THC as well as cigs.

I'm hoping they determine it has only been that causing the problem. Then I'd know my Willies Reserve is still safe to use.

(106,647 posts)While it is the wild wild west in terms of regulation of concentration in any of these products, at least one can take steps to avoid contaminants in edibles and pretty much self-calibrate your "dose."
Why smoke/vape if you don't "have" to, given the uncertainties?

If you are buying from a legal dispensary, you are ok...
But if you are buying on the street...throw it away.

Thanks for the info!!!

Sad...I really enjoy the simple, discreet delivery method. Edibles are great, but they take two hours! No perfect world I suppose.

(12,444 posts)If it is a legal dispensary in Illinois that is law, you have to disclose all ingredients...
You can then determine if there are any harmful ingredients.
It is a stick on label which I remove and place on my vape pen...so that I know which product I am consuming, sativa or whatever...
The guy in Oregon could have altered his cartridge and added ingredients...
Many users are adding different oils and even nicotine...

(7,582 posts)I have a battery operated pipe with a thermostat- controlled mechanism that vapes the herb. Works great. Portable, odorless, and discreet. But you can detect the terpine fragrance on the first few draws.

(667 posts)I still remember the paraquat era. Do I still not trust the government. Yup. Now it may be paranoia, but I wouldn't put anything past the people currently in power. If you missed the '70's here is an article which speaks to what went on back then.
https://www.nytimes.com/1978/11/19/archives/poisonous-fallout-from-the-war-on-marijuana-paraquat.html
I know, paranoia strikes deep, but I literally quit back then and never looked back.

(10,041 posts)there are different kinds of vaping.
1) if you are vaping the concentrates, oils, cartridges, .... that product is produced by mixing in other substances to bind with the THC or CBD. this can be vitamin E or a petroleum product like butane, or other unknown STUFF that isn't good for you. this applies to tobacco products too. so avoid the concentrates and the cartridges.
2) you can vape (vaporize) dry herb/flowers. this is totally different and actually WAY better for you than smoking. the material is the same stuff you've been putting in your pipe. you just put it in a "dry-herb vaporizer" and instead of lighting it on fire (and inhaling the fumes from your lighter) it just passes warm air over the material, which is good enough to capture the THC or CBD that you are after. there is no combustion and you avoid inhaling carcinogens that are produced when there is actual burning/combustion.
so my advice is to NOT VAPE CONCENTRATES that come in a cartridge. BAD SHIT!
but absolutely VAPE THE DRY HERB.
you need the proper tool for that. google "dry herb vaporizer" and you'll find lots of products and reviews and comparisons.
hope that helps

Is this one of those things where you DO get what you pay for? The star rating reviews gave the cheapest one a 1/2 star less rating than the expensive one so they were both excellent. Why such a difference in prices? Any ideas?
garybeck
(10,041 posts)they are not all the same. some differences include:
convection heating vs conduction heating
how long the battery lasts
portable vs desktop
i spent $109 and i'm very happy with it. i got this one:

(52,344 posts)at least that is what the fucking moron said. He referred to his own kid as "Melania's son". What an ass. Since she "Really does care" (remember her jacket?) she is sincerely concerned about vaping all of a sudden. Basically she is looking for any irrelevant issue to put her name as a "concerned first lady" after she dug up Michelle Obama's healthy W House garden. What total BS!
