There were more places to buy liquor in Wheatons surrounding communities than any other Illinois community after Wheaton colleges Christians got city council to vote no on liquors in Wheaton.

A lot of Illinois towns are prohibiting sales within their city limits. The law provides for this.

However, it will still be legal to possess and privately use pot in those towns. There will simply be no sales (and subsequently, no tax revenue).
I expect attitudes will change when the world doesn't end, and towns with dispensaries are benefiting from pot income.

Kind of a snooty town. Not overly rich, but definitely white.

bars. I suspect it was probably just some self-righteous folks making a lot of meaningless noise.

get any of those tax dollars collected from legal store in other communities. I would hope not.
