Delta-8 THC is made from Hemp. Hemp was made legal 2 years ago, so some chemists got to work, and Delta-8 THC was born.
Delta-9 THC is stronger and is what we think of as the true cannabis. Its cousin is a strong contender and legal.
You can order it online from various vendors. You can go to your local tobacco shop and buy it in multiple forms: vap, edibles, smoke, tincture and something called a Dab.
There are many articles and YouTube clips about it.
Just thought I would pass this information on.
UPDATE: Delta-8, Delta-9, and Delta-10 are all products made from Hemp.
Hemp was legalized in the 2018 Farm Bill.

(3,067 posts)That wont help my sister, then.
She has severe pain and has been on opiates for many years. She tried THC for a little while about 18 months ago and it reduced her pain tremendously. But her state doesnt even allow medical marijuana. Her pain doctor told her that if her urine test showed THC again, he would no longer be her doctor and she would no longer get the pain relieving drugs she needs. Sux!

(3,067 posts)The THC will be much better for her and won't leave her hooked on it.

(484 posts)Three reasons she cant: 1) medical MJ isnt legal in her state, so every transaction would be subject to possible criminal charges. 2) THC is hella more expensive than her subsidized opioids and shes on a fixed income, and 3) THC isnt sufficient to deal with all types of pain, just as opioids dont help with all types of pain.
Oddly, we both ended up with different chronic medical problems that include chronic pain. I use opioids and THC to control mine, but I live in a state where its completely legal and am a bit more financially secure. The opioids dont work on all my pain, at least not at strengths where Im still functional and taking a higher dose is scary. THC also doesnt work for all my pain unless I take enough to be loopy. Ive found, though, that taking a small dose of opioid and a small dose of THC actually works really well on most of my pain and I can still function almost normally. I also use higher doses of THC to get much better sleep (it works way better than all the prescriptions Ive been given over the years and has near zero side-effects). Better sleep also reduces the perception of pain.

(1,262 posts)I was on medical marijuana (MM) for pain. MM was the best pain reliever I ever used. I am no longer on MM because it was costing me about $100 a month for the level of pain reliever I needed. I found another way of dealing with my pain. It does not involve any medications or other substances. I use a set of exercises that alleviates the pain for me.

(7,752 posts)She can print off the 2018 Farm Bill that legalizes Hemp and bring it to her doctor.
If that does not work, she needs a new doctor!

No wonder states are starting to ban it.

(7,752 posts)I guess there is a Delta 10 as well. I will work my way up.
Delta-8 has very long lasting effects. I could still feel it 12 hours later.
Plus, the effect is delayed by 1 1/2 hours and builds from there. So be careful not to keep dosing, you will regret it!
For me, it is a nice alternative to alcohol when I want to relax and feel good.
