James Ehlers supports Bernie Sanders Medicare for All proposal
Sep 15 2017
Winooski, VT Today, James Ehlers, Democratic candidate for Vermont Governor, announced his strong support of Senator Bernie Sanders recently introduced plan for Universal Healthcare for all Americans. With his firm belief that Vermonters access to high quality healthcare is a right for everyone, not just a privilege for a few, James commits to working tirelessly with Vermonters to replace our broke and broken system with one that is just, fair, and affordable.
Bernie has called the bluff of our current healthcare system, said Ehlers. It simply makes no sense that we should be asked to accept paying significantly more than other countries while millions of us remain uninsured or underinsured, our health outcomes lag, and our families and businesses struggle with ever-increasing costs. Bernie is right that its time for universal healthcare for all.
Vermont has historically been a national leader in healthcare reform. Vermont expanded coverage to children in 1989 through the creation of Dr. Dynasaur and dramatically increased coverage for adults through the creation of the Vermont Health Access Program (VHAP) and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Act 48, passed in 2010, established Green Mountain Care to provide universal coverage to all Vermonters.
Vermonters know that universal healthcare is the right thing and I thank Bernie for leading the way nationally on their behalf, said Ehlers. Unlike our current governor, who has been too slow and too quiet in confronting Republican efforts to strip health care from millions of Americans, I will work with Bernie and the grassroot effort throughout Vermont to make sure that no Vermonter goes bankrupt because of an illness or cant fill a prescription because of the out of control cost of prescription drugs.
