Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumPresident Trump Slammed Bernie Sanders And Bernie Just Fired Back Hard
Bernie Sanders found himself at the receiving end of Donald Trump's vitriol once again over Healthcare and DACA. Mr. Sander's stood fists clenched and came back with a brutal verbal lashing. After it was all said and done it left many wondering.... is this September 2017 or 2016?
Just when we thought serious discussion could be an option, President Trump took vicious aim at Bernie Sanders bascially calling him a blight on the American people. It took all of a handful of seconds for the Vermont Senator to swing back. While in an interview on SiriusXM Progress, Mr. Sanders in no uncertain terms told the President to ... look in the mirror.
Where can we begin on that? Sanders asked rhetorically. Mr. President, let me tell you what a curse on the American people is, and that is your support for legislation that would throw 23 million people off the health care they currently have, and then provide huge tax breaks for the rich and large corporations.
Providing health care to every man, woman, and child in this country ― thats not a curse. That is what every other major country on earth does and that is exactly what we should be doing, he stated.
Sanders also called Trump the most destructive president in modern history particularly in regards to his decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. A decision that puts around 800,000 immigrant youth at risk of deportation.
With unwavering conviction Senator Sanders went on to say :
Of all of the terrible things that he has done and proposes to do, the cruelest and most ugly action was the doing away with the legal status of 800,000 young people under the DACA program. To my mind we have got to do everything we can to restore legal status to those young people, Sanders said.
Weve got to move forward to protect not only them but their parents. I would hope ― I would hope ― that maybe Trump understands the revulsion thats taking place all across this country, whether youre Democrat, Republican or independent, at what he did. And maybe hes trying to find a way out of it. And if thats the case, thats a good thing.

(7,822 posts)1. Damn, I love Bernie.
He's right on the issues, he's passionate, and he can land a punch. I don't know how the General woulda gone if he'd gotten the nomination, but I woulda liked to see that fight.

(7,822 posts)3. I happen to think so.
Frankly, it's hard to say. But I have yet to hear anyone make the case for a single state Hillary won that Bernie woulda lost. At worst we would still have lost, but Bernie would have made the case for a more progressive agenda. Best case? We would have Pres Sanders instead of Trump.

I have heard countless and know quite a few right wingers including a few who ID as Tea(baggers)party who said, you get Bernie there and we are with him. We will never vote for Trump unless Hillary is running. I knew this was going to happen. Still, it is anecdotal.
