Bernie Sanders To Join De Blasio On Subway Ride

Oct 30, 2017 10:39 am ET

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders is taking to the rails with Mayor Bill de Blasio Monday morning. The pair will ride the A train from Penn Station to Fulton Street in Downtown Manhattan, where they'll discuss de Blasio's proposed millionaire's tax to fund the ailing subway system.

The appearance comes ahead of de Blasio's campaign rally Monday night with Sanders, an Independent from Vermont who ran unsuccessfully for president last year as a Democrat. The subway ride, though, is being coordinated by the mayor's government office.

De Blasio has proposed a tax on New York City's highest earners to fund desperately needed subway repairs as well as half-priced MetroCards for low-income New Yorkers.
