BURLINGTON, Vt. Honoring those who have served. Members of Vermont's congressional delegation are speaking out for veterans across the region.
Senator Bernie Sanders and Congressman Peter Welch, along with Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger joined the Burlington VFW Saturday for the annual Veterans Day celebration at Battery Park.
Sanders told the crowd there is no reason veterans should not be taken care of once they return home.
"We have got to keep our commitment to Veterans, to make sure that when they come home from war, and when they end their service, that they get the best quality healthcare that they can and that they get the benefits that are due them in a timely manner. There's a lot of work that has to be done. I think we're making some progress in terms of homelessness of Veterans, making sure that no Veteran sleeps out on the street, but we still have lot of work to do not only for our Veterans but to make sure their families are also well taken care of," said Sen. Sanders.
Sanders also urged people in Vermont and across the country to remind military men, women and their families that they are never forgotten.
