Washington Post looks ahead to 2020 for Sen. Sanders

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is up for re-election in November, but some people are starting to look a little farther into his future than that.

On Friday morning, the Washington Post ranked him as the top contender for the next Democratic presidential nomination.

Local 22 & Local 44 reporter and anchor Mike Hoey asked Sanders about that story while the senator was hosting UVM nurses for a news conference.

Mike asked, "You probably have no doubt seen -- the Washington Post has pegged you once again, at the moment, as the #1 contender for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. Any response to that?"

After chuckling and holding up his hands, Sen. Sanders said, "Let's focus on the nurses."
