Martin O'Malley
Related: About this forumHi everyone.
I'm here because of my DU pal JustAnotherGen.
I'm a democratic socialist and undecided. I was seriously considering Bernie but now I'm not sure he'll make it to the primary in my State (New Mexico). Still undecided and still considering Hillary as well. My eyes & ears are open and I'll seriously check out O'Malley too. I look forward to learning more about him here.
I recognize that we can't have all the things we want all from a President, especially if Congress has so many lousy republicans in it. I'm pragmatic and also optimistic about the great people I meet in the struggle of advancing the quality of life for everyone in this huge and often strange and hilarious country, and the world.
I don't think I've even seen an O'Malley speech or interview yet. I do recall him singing (I think it was The Pogues or some Irish music) and I thought that was awesome.

(33,424 posts)He's not without flaws - but I truly think he can beat Obama's 291 accomplishments (randys1 has been using that about Obama - I like it) and he won't run against Obama.
Obama sparked a transformation in America.
O'Malley will try to bring his own water - and try to pull his own ship! The framework is there. And if he has to compromise - it won't be with Keystone, civil rights/liberties, reproductive choice, or health care.
If you look at his record - and his platform - those are off the table.

(11,833 posts)It's inspiring to consider and I look forward to seeing more of O'Malley. I like his supporters here at DU. That's really what it boils down to. What can the person really accomplish as President. I'm all for moving the country even further down the road paved by Obama and his amazing supporters.

So far, I think he is doing just what you described.

(33,424 posts)Green initiatives are critical to me - because they could have a deep impact on how manage our infrastructure.
My two issues- Green Focused Infrastructure development and Voting Rights.
One sparks the economy, creates high paying jobs that can only be done here, and serves the basic function of government.
Next is Voting Rights - I want the vote secured for all.
Those two drive everything else. SCOTUS appointments, income inequality, high cost of living, social security etc etc

. )
We aren't the most posted in group on DU, and that is fine but we are, in my opinion, the most dedicated group to get our candidates accomplishments out there.
We have a few links here that will lead you to interviews and policy speeches. He's got a great band I can personally attest to that.
He also has some great legislative experience.
Once again, WELCOME!
