Martin O'Malley
Related: About this forumOne candidate is leading on the Syrian refugee crisis.
Former Gov. Martin OMalley (D-Md.) says the United States should offer to take in at least 65,000 refugees from Syria by 2016.
OMalley said Americas history as a cultural melting pot should inspire action to help Europe deal with the growing number of displaced Syrians.
Americans are a generous and compassionate people, he said in a statement. But today our policies are falling short of those values.
We must do more to support Syrian refugees and we must certainly welcome more than the proposed 5,000 to 8,000 refugees next year, said OMalley, a 2016 Democratic presidential candidate.
I support the call from humanitarian and refugee organizations for the United States to accept at least 65,500 Syrian refugees next year, he added.
If Germany a country with one-fourth our population can accept 800,000 refugees this year, certainly we the nation of immigrants and refugees - can do more.
Thus far, no other Democratic or Republican presidential candidate has spoken out on America's ability to provide relief to this absolute humanitarian emergency.

(39,961 posts)I don't know what to do to catapult him on the national scene, but if/when Hillary crashes and burns (which I think she will) we need a strong candidate to take the lead.
Joe Biden doesn't want to run - he has said as much. The only reason that was mentioned was to send up a trial balloon in case Hillary is found ineligible/not electable.
I've made no bones about the fact that I am a Bernie Sanders supporter, but I honestly believe that O'Malley can get elected and he is a fantastic statesman.
So yeah, I'm on the "if it isn't Bernie, it better be O'Malley" train.

This rigmarole that the DNC is pulling is asinine. I'd say they would be ashamed of themselves, but it appears that Wasserman-Shultz is ready to spearhead "Hillary is the only person that can win, and I'll make it happen" movement.
I have absolutely no doubt that Clinton is going to get obliterated by her opponents in a debate, and not because she's a woman - it's because she is a dirty politician that in the end isn't very effective at being a dirty politician.

(135,883 posts)MO'M and BS won't play dirty in debates, but will be seriously prepared. So will she; we'll all learn a lot.
Saw hrc interview w mitchell on Rachel show, part of it, and heard word salad re: refugee crisis. MO'M has a thing or two to say about that.

(39,961 posts)and neither has Sanders.
Clinton had a bag of tricks in 2008 that would choke a goat they were such ugly politics.
Racism? Had no problem with that dog whistle.
Sorry, I went off on a tangent. I love Martin O'Malley.
Thanks for being here.
