SC’s Sheheen to co-chair Martin O’Malley’s state presidential campaign.
South Carolinas 2014 Democratic candidate for governor is backing Martin O'Malley's underdog bid for the presidential nomination.
State Sen. Vincent Sheheen, D-Kershaw, will serve as O'Malleys state campaign co-chair, the campaign announced Thursday.
The former chairman of the Democratic Governors Association campaigned with Sheheen in his failed bid last year to unseat Republican Gov. Nikki Haley. Sheheen also ran unsuccessfully against Haley in 2010.
Boyd Brown, a Columbia real-estate professional and former S.C. House representative, also is co-chairing O'Malley's S.C. campaign with Sheheen.
OMalley has two stops planned in the Lowcountry on Thursday.
At noon, he meets with faith and community leaders to discuss reducing gun violence at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in North Charleston. OMalley will speak at the College of Charleston at 3:45 p.m.
OMalleys last visit to the Palmetto State was in August, when he met with a group of African-American business, legal and civic leaders in Columbia for a roundtable discussion on criminal justice reform.
