Martin O'Malley

'Mr. Spitzer acknowledged that he is supporting one of Mrs. Clintons opponents, Martin OMalley, and dates the candidates deputy campaign manager, Lis Smith. But he insisted that the moment was revealing overall about Mrs. Clinton.' !!!
It was a politically tough issue, Mr. Spitzer said. It didnt poll well, but there was no ambiguity about what was right. And if you look at where we are now as a nation on this very issue Its the law of the land, I think, in California, a slew of states, and its not controversial because people know its right and it works. But at the time it was controversial. And because it was controversial she hemmed and she hawed.
He added: This goes to the core of where are you on immigrants rights? And the president not then the president, Senator Obama, now the president gave an unambiguous answer: yes. The Clinton folks, as no doubt you remember, thought the issue was the problem. I thought the issue was a metaphor for her vacillation. . .
She is intensely smart. Clever. Glib. A joy to be with, Mr. Spitzer told Mr. Axelrod. None of that has to do with whether or not shes the best Democratic candidate for president.
He suggested that Mr. OMalley, the former Maryland governor, will have an opportunity to make his case to voters. Mr. OMalley has made criticism of Mrs. Clinton over hedging on drivers licenses in the 2007-8 presidential campaign a key part of his message.
OMalley has been there on the tough issues and gotten it done and I think hell make that case, Mr. Spitzer said.
When Mr. Axelrod raised the fact that Mr. Spitzer dates Ms. Smith, he replied, Yes, everybody knows that. Yes. Correct. I am biased and overtly so. And proudly so. I never thought that being biased was a negative thing as long as you had a foundation for it, if its based on fact.

I personally believe that O'Malley is far too smart to touch this story with a ten foot pole. That's why his campaign is using distant surrogates to put it out there--so there's no splashback. That is a smart strategy, because this efffort is not a winner.

(19,537 posts)About 2007 when she last spoke on this topic... Maybe she's afraid the media will play "gotcha" again with her on this topic since this was part of the more recent immigration bill?

(135,425 posts)That should be the headline, so people don't waste their time.
And contrary to Spitzer's assertion, "everybody" did not know this. They do now, though, and as a consequence, they'll discount his opinions, now that they know they aren't bias free. And his bias isn't based on FACT, it's based on something else ENTIRELY....and we know what that is.
Gawd, he's sunk rather low, hasn't he?

(135,425 posts)This is a guy who
1. Violated his oaths of office;
2. Crossed state lines in commission of a felony;
3. Spent a FORTUNE in government money to rent hotel roomS;
4. Hired prostitutes;
5. Took "business trips" on government funds to meet up with said prostitutes;
6. And did all this on MULTIPLE occasions.
7. Oh, and then he cried and whined and said he was "addicted to sex."
Anyone who would behave so recklessly and stupidly just to get a little swerve on might well be willing to say anything to keep getting busy. His track record is simply not his ally with regard to this matter. To try to pretend that he's speaking solely from a high-minded perspective is just not believable.
