Martin O’Malley to attend King Day at the Dome, host SC justice forum.
COLUMBIA
Former Maryland Gov. Martin OMalley will attend the King Day at the Dome march and rally next Monday, his campaign said.
OMalley is the first 2016 Democratic presidential hopeful to confirm plans to attend the days events. OMalley will speak at the S.C. State House rally, said Tyler Jones, the campaigns state director.
In past years, the event has drawn thousands of people to the capitol grounds, including, in 2008, Democratic presidential hopefuls then-U.S. Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and former U.S. Sen. John Edwards.
The holiday events will top off a weekend of Democratic presidential campaigning in the Palmetto State.
OMalley will hold a forum on equal opportunity and justice in Columbia on Saturday, the day before Democratic presidential candidates debate in Charleston.
The forum will be held at the historically black Benedict College. On Point host Cynthia Hardy will moderate the forum.
The former Maryland governor and Baltimore mayor has tried to make criminal justice changes passed under his leadership a central part of his campaign.
