Why Am I Team #OMalley2016?

'This is a question I’ve gotten a lot since I’ve begun advocating for presidential candidate, Martin O’Malley. A lot of people are genuinely curious, befuddled, and seemingly bemused often as to why I declare my support for the #OMalley2016 campaign. Furthermore, I think many do not understand why I would spend time campaigning for a candidate with apparently low poll numbers. I’ve decided to write this post to really articulate my political engagement in a way that is hopefully concise, meaningful, and understandable.

The truth of the matter is both Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton are worthy candidates. In fact, I do agree with a good portion of both their policies. However, I am not content with settling. I want to be excited about our next President of the United States of America. Our country is thirsting for a leader that is bringing new ideas to the table, unapologetically fighting for justice, and pragmatically coming up with diverse solutions to the increasingly complicated issues affecting our nation — and world.

When I think about what I want our country to look like in 8 years, I want it to be a drastically different place. I think President Barack Obama has done a lot of good things, and I’m grateful for much of his work, but so much more has to be done. My support for Martin O’Malley boils down to a few quick reasons that I have laid out below.

1.New AND Pragmatic Ideas - One quick look at the #15Goals (https://martinomalley.com/category/15-goals/) that Martin O’Malley came up with MONTHS ago demonstrate he is the forward-thinking leader that we need. Many don’t realize that the #15Goals have really shaped the election, and other candidates have formulated policies in reaction to them, and often almost mirroring them. Martin O’Malley is not a follower, but rather a leader who is constantly thinking about real solutions that can push this nation forward. Some of the goals include generation 100% of American electricity with renewable energy by 2050, putting the 11 million New Americans (undocumented citizens) on the pathway to citizenship through comprehensive immigration reform, implementing systems that make college debt-free, ending childhood hunger by 2020, reforming our criminal justice system, and enacting real gun control. There aren't just empty promises either, but he along with his brilliant team have come up with formulated policies that can make those goals a reality.

2.Bravery - Martin O’Malley isn’t afraid to speak up for what is right. To be honest, this is probably the main reason why I support him. I think I’ve often been really disheartened by how dishonest, corrupt, and inauthentic politics has become, and Martin O’Malley is the most genuine guy out there. If you think about how he has called out Donald Trump for exactly what he is, has been called a menace by the NRA, was the first candidate to visit a mosque following the Paris Attacks to express solidarity with the American-Muslim community, and has consistently called for humanization of issues. Martin O’Malley is really speaking for the people, and has established himself as the most compassionate candidate. No candidate is perfect, but I’m interested in supporting a candidate that is interested in learning, advocating, and staying woke — and that candidate for me is Martin O’Malley.

3.Consistency - Martin O’Malley has a RECORD of accomplishing things like marriage equality, education reform, raising the minimum wage, and fighting for new americans, demonstrating the type of President that he would be. He has executive leadership experience, and has a consistent record of doing what is right. Also, it is important to see that Martin O’Malley is interested in furthering justice not just in some specific areas or in arenas that are convenient, but really in all possible ways. His record of #ActionsNotWords speaks for itself. Read more about that here: https://martinomalley.com/bio/record/.

4.Inspiration - I want a President who INSPIRES me when they speak, and I think most people want that too. Furthermore, I want them to inspire me not just when they talk about one niche subject or when they talk about themselves, but when they rise to occasion in the face of trying times to speak eloquently on how to progress as a nation. That for me is clearly Martin O’Malley. I think when you watch any debate, he is so clearly the best orator, debater, and candidate, but many people are just discounting him because of his low poll numbers. The issue with that is WE, the people, dictate those poll numbers. If we all rally behind the one person on that stage speaking up for the unheard, defending TRUTH, and NEVER avoiding questions — those poll numbers will change drastically. We cannot afford to keep flocking to those who have high poll numbers, and we think have a “chance,” because we determine who has a chance. If we want a President who inspires us, I encourage you all to join the #OMalley2016 team - TODAY.

5.This tweet, because it really boils down so much of why I am so fortunate to be a part of this campaign.

...

I want a President who makes me feel safe, heard, and valued. I want a President who has a record of advocating for justice, and who I solemnly believe will continue that. I want a President who inspires me with his forward-thinking. I want a president with new, pragmatic, and intelligent solutions to our world’s problems. I want a President who thinks in terms of we. I want a President who I can trust to fight for a better tomorrow - on all fronts. For me, that is so clearly Martin O’Malley. So the question now becomes, why aren’t you on Team O’Malley?'
