Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumAlright, so in the instance this doesn't pan out
I can already see the blame being laid on the group or Bernie supporters that didnt go for Biden.
Let me just say, obviously, Ill vote for the nominee. So Im not a take my ball and go home Bernie Bro (of which Ive actually never met any).
But support is being given to Biden it seems, with the simultaneous acknowledgment, and point of criticism, that a segment of his supporters will indeed not support Biden, or anyone else.
Im of the option that to win the GE we will need to win by at least 10%, probably more like 15%-20%, given all the GOP election ratfucking.
So Lets be clear the Bernie or nobody else people are not democrats.. and Biden will need to win this election by earning all the votes he can, and overcoming a GOP slanted election system.
I hope Im just being overly pessimistic. And Ill get as many people As I can out to vote for Biden if hes the guy.
Im just saying, Im getting flashbacks of 2016.
Looking forward to being proved wrong

(15,506 posts)Biden will have a broad coalition. IMO, hell have the Obama coalition AND a good chunk of working class whites. I predict Trump gets trounced.

(13,582 posts)The party will need to heal and unite. That will take all of us and most importantly, it will both Senator Sanders and VP Biden showing the way to our better angels.
Vote Blue. Period.

(17,720 posts)For example, will Bernie's campaign surrogates all start to announce that they are either not voting, supporting the Green Party, or supporting Trump? Likewise, will Bernie's supporters start booing black speakers at the DNC convention? Tell me the answer to this, and I will tell you if this is a repeat of 2016.

(28,372 posts)Biden has a broad coalition and the country has had three-plus years to see what kind of disaster Trump is. There will likely be little or no tolerance for the kind of nonsense that happened at the convention last year, and the Democrats will come out of it looking unity and ready for November.
It will still come down to the electoral college, but Biden looks stronger in swing states, stronger in overall approval, stronger with Independents and clearly has the ability to bring out voters, as evidenced by the primaries.

(14,565 posts)Trump is in far stronger position in 2020 than he ever was in 2016. In 2016 he needed the Comey fluke and had a 38/60 favorable/unfavorable rating in the election day exit poll. In 2020 I guarantee that will be much closer to parity.
Incumbency is a surreal advantage. Trump can only lose. We cannot defeat him. The outcome is solely dictated by Trump's approval rating in early November.

(28,372 posts)The outcome is primarily dictated by turnout, just like 2018 was. That midterm was decidedly about Trump, we ran on the issues, and his approval ratings were no lower then than they are now. Repeat.
"We cannot defeat him."
Bullshit.

(18,402 posts)Especially in Michigan, where suburban voters, especially women, are voting for Biden. This is the same group, together with African Americans that led us to the blue wave midterms in 2018.

(31,261 posts)A much bigger issue is keeping African Americans at the lead of the effort to defeat Trump. In the 2016 General , about 1 million African Americans, my guess mostly concentrated in critical states, didn't vote, some of those states went against us.

(15,506 posts)African American turnout was lower in Philly, Detroit, and Milwaukee which are all located in swing states. If they come out in force for a Biden, its over for Trump.

(6,966 posts)People want decency, stability, competence and experience to guide us through major crises. That's why Biden can win with zero effort. He has those qualities in spades. This is not an indictment of Sanders, just a political fact right now, and both parties and independents actually want this. Only a small number in the country care about policy as a primary issue, because without winning nothing is possible Few actually have any interest into the perceived chaos of a "revolution". Also, everyone chattering on the Internet comprises a very small percentage of the populace as a whole. Finally, most supporters people believe Biden will be open to what he is given by a Democratic Congress.
I have gone from thinking that Trump had an 80% chance of winning, to Biden taking the Presidency in a landslide.
