Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumRachel Maddow just said she sees no circumstances in which Democratic National Convention goes on
This is unacceptable. It is the equivalent of ceding the GE to Toad before it even begins. We cannot allow him to define the race and our nominee. A successful, unifying, uplifting, boisterous DNC is essential to the task ahead in November and a prerequisite to victory.
Lawrence seems to think this is somehow a good idea as well???
P.S.: Coronavirus is the reason (of course). And we know damn fucking well that Toad isn't cancelling his 4-day infomercial even if the end of the world was nigh.

(28,372 posts)Austin cancelled a $400 million festival. Universities are closing for the Spring semester. The fifth-largest tennis tournament in the world pulled the plug. Cities are banning large gatherings.
I think this is the norm for a while, and the DNC is unlikely to be an exception.

(1,837 posts)The nation needs to be introduced to the Joe Biden we all know and love. They need the videos and the speeches of his friends. families, and colleagues to get to know him better. We need the speeches of Presidents Carter, Clinton, and Obama to fire up the troops for Joe. Not to mention rolling out the VP selection and building up a head of steam going into the convention. Picking the VP the weekend before the convention and then barnstorming the nation on the way to a triumphant arrival in Milwaukee.
The convention needs to happen somehow.

(1,837 posts)Both conventions are cancelled, or both go forward. Tired of always going high while they go low (and losing).

(62,444 posts)The GOP 2016 convention was a shitshow.
Honestly, who gives a shit about an arena full of bumpkins in funny hats waving signs.
Unnacceptable - oh my. Will it go on our permanent record?
Do you know that France just banned gatherings of more than 1000 people? Do you think the virus cares what country it is in?

(1,837 posts)Was probably one of the decisive events that led to President Clinton's victory in November. It let people know who the real Bill Clinton was.

(62,444 posts)Not only were the circumstances tremendously different in relation to the candidates backgrounds, but something tells me it was a lot harder to get that video onto Instagram, YouTube and Facebook.
How about Kennedy Snubs Carter On Live TV in 1980, or Riot Breaks Out in 1968.
You dont need to create a public health crisis to run a freaking video. Joe Biden was VP for eight years. Plenty of people got a look at him.
