Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI say this out of total sincerity a whole lot of anxiety. We need Joe now more than ever.
With all due respect to the other previous candidates and their supporters, we need that steady hand at the wheel because otherwise, there won't be enough Lexapro in the world to bring me confidence in the country's future.

Rolex.
His grasp in many areas of government has been much underestimated. Medicine, as a public health issue, is just one area he has both experience and knowledge in.

(17,275 posts)Wasn't he marvelous the other day when he presented plans, ideas, and suggestions in a realistic and positive manner with regard to how serious the issue is. And then we have "Huff 'n Snort" give his bumbling, rambling word salad.
So, which one did you take comfort from?
THAT is leadership.
I have no doubt that several of the other Democratic candidates would/could have been as sincere and capable, but Joe is who we have now and I find that most comforting - and exciting.

(58,785 posts)Fwiw, though, a whole lot of our democracy's strength comes from the powers reserved to the states. And the more dangerous and oppressive a captured federal government got, the more determined the blue states would become. Many have been refusing and actively working against the demands of the Republican-controlled federal government, and doing what they need to do without federal money.
Plus, of course, our nation has always been, for 240 years, a nation of, by and for the people. That's our heritage, not the centuries of authoritarian rule embedded in other cultures that their peoples have often been persuaded to return to. It's scary that the RW subversives have advanced their treason and corruption as dangerously far as they have, but this isn't the first time things have had to get really bad before enough people wake up and get alarmed.
In the 1930s the major threats our Democratic Party defeated were also attempts at overthrow from both a socialist left and fascistic right. Other nations fell to one or the other. We didn't.
