Kos: Bernie wanted to break Biden, the way Warren broke Bloomberg. Not even close to happening.

Bernie wanted to break Biden, the way Warren broke Bloomberg. Not even close to happening. Biden has been sharp.

When Warren was in the race, it seemed most supported her. Now, to me, it seems evenly divided between Sanders and Biden supporters. Or maybe you’re right and I’m reading the wrong threads.

14. I disagree with the premise. I don't think he wanted to do to Biden what Warren did to Bloomberg.

Because Sanders knows that Biden is very likely to be the nominee, and he smartly doesn't want to totally kneecap our nominee as Warren did to Bloomberg. What he mostly wants is to push his agenda. Making it easier for Trump to win in November is NOT something Sanders wants to do.

I think hanging in the race when it's virtually certain he won't win isn't the smartest move. It reeks of desperation and ego more than principle, from where I'm standing. But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

But despite my personal dislike of him, I agree. I don't think he's deliberately trying to cripple Biden for the general election. I don't think he's spitefully doing this to help Trump. He probably is hoping to drag Biden to the left and have a shot at getting some of his ideas injected into the platform.

The issue is that while he may not intend to help Trump, he's doing so regardless. Any attempt to damage Biden in the primary is just writing ad copy for the Trump campaign in the general. Bernie's surrogates are out there pushing the "cognitive decline" narrative as hard as they can, and you can get Trump will gleefully latch onto that.

I can understand hanging in the race until Biden hits the magic number. Biden's campaign was written off as hopeless mere weeks ago, and now here we are. But the moment Biden hits the magic number, Bernie needs to bow out. If he doesn't, he's helping Trump, good intentions be damned.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

18. Are you certain that's true? That he's mathematically eliminated, I mean?

Of a total 3,979 delegates, 1,770 have been allocated thus far, leaving 2,209 remaining. Bernie's down by 154 delegates right now, and the momentum is all going Biden's way. Polls indicate that future primaries are likely to be a bloodbath for Bernie, but polls aren't perfect predictors of how things will go. And not all that long ago, Bernie had the momentum. So no, I don't think Bernie is mathematically eliminated, not yet.

As a practical matter, Bernie's almost certainly done. Like I said, I can respect hanging in until Biden hits the magic number. Hanging in a moment longer than that, though, is just being foolishly stubborn. Do I think what Bernie's doing is great? No. Do I think he's deliberately helping Trump out of spite? Also no.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
