Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumJoe for the win tonight.
He is what America needs right now.
Yes. I wanted Warren and would be saying the same about her, however America is still not ready for a woman.
Joe did one hell of a job tonight, So cool. So calm. So reassuring when we all need reassurance. He answered every question about the Coronavirus directly. He did not veer off to a stump speech. He looked us in the eye and told us where we are and what he would do.
He talked to me. Facts, not dreams.
Thank you Joe.

(49,725 posts)I am feeling quite hopeful. Just imagine what a great cabinet Joe will assemble and hopefully Warren will have a prominent position in it. Of course, I would hate to lose her in the senate though! She is a national treasure.

(17,812 posts)Biden looked and sounded presidential tonight. We was put together in a sharp, well cut suit, fresh haircut, he looked like he could go all night standing at that podium. That doesn't even touch his message! Biden made salient points that spoke to the issues we're facing right now, was respectful to Bernie but countered him effectively. Biden showed himself to be ready to take on Trump. Huge win

(87,551 posts)The one on one showed the sharp contrast of the two.
One answered the questions directly for the most pressing issue of all Americans at this moment. The Coronavirus that may kill up to a million. One refused and did a stump speech.
I am sorry. This is just not the place for that right now. People are frightened, rightfully so.

(84,365 posts)One could easily picture him in the White House, at the podium with the presidential seal. Cool, calm, and collected, and willing to deal with the facts of a crisis and not empty, misleading happy-talk.
I bet one prevailing feeling among viewers was - man, THATS the President we should have right now. THATS the Resident we need right now.
As for Bernie, the stature thing was just not there. He didnt look, act, or sound presidential. I have a hard time picturing him standing there giving a State of the Union speech. I have a hard time picturing him at the presidential lectern now r sitting behind the Resolute Desk. Cant help it. All he did was scold, as usual. Enough!

Time to reflect on what a candidate, be them male, female or in between, black, white or in between, gay straight or in between demonstrated to the US populace.
If you lost, obviously there is a reason ...policies, experience, demeanor, charisma level? Until we focus on those things, we will never progress.
.
Time to talk about other factors beyond race, gender or orientation for a loss.

(19,612 posts)Bernie needed something to change tonight and nothing did.
Biden looked good up there and I suspect he seemed comforting to many in these COVID-19 times under Trump.
There were good moments by both, but Biden had to fall on his face for Bernie to gain ground. Instead the opposite happened. Biden was strong and presidential standing behind the podium. Making a clear delivery of his thoughts and platform. He looked Presidential! Again, I also suspect people were comforted, I know I was. We've had so much chaos to deal with and so many blows over the past 3 years.
Bernie took a gut punch over Castro. That one was a tad brutal. It's a good thing he's not going to be the nominee since there's zero chance he could carry Florida now.

(2,207 posts)And he pointed out the flaws in Biden's record we're they differed. And he was a gentleman. I thought he did an excellent job in pointing out Biden's record compared to his... and how records do matter. Bernie has been on the right side of history his entire career.
I like Joe Biden. I've liked and followed him ever since I saw him do Strom Thurmond's eulogy. I think he's a good man. But I think Bernie's policies are what this country needs right now and if this pandemic doesn't demonstrate that, then nothing will.
I know I'm going to be hate bombed probably for defending Bernie / my position. I lurk here mostly just to get the temperature of where folks are going. And I honestly, sincerely believe that Biden is the wrong choice at this time in our country's history.
Facts matter. Records matter.
