Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumBiden embraces Warren's policies, then says he's selecting a woman as VP
Coincidence? Probably not.
I don't think he'd announce that he'd pick a woman unless he already has a confirmed choice.
I may be wrong, but I'm guessing Warren.

(28,478 posts)I do agree he needs a younger running mate and I also think Warren is more valuable in the Senate.

(55,334 posts)I supported Warren for the nomination. We are a weaker nation for not having her at the top of the ticket.
But that said, I don't know if adding Warren to the ticket does anything electorally for Biden. Massachusetts won't be in play, she didn't pull significant votes in the primaries, and frankly who is embracing her policies now sounds more like she's cut a deal with him (which is totally honorable and how politics is done) for policy initiatives, not inclusion on the national ticket.

(5,385 posts)You may not agree with his positions, but Joe Biden is the most qualified person running, period. I like Warren, but she has zero foreign policy or executive experience. Joe served two terms as VP in a very successful administration.

(5,689 posts)which is fantastic as her policies on many issues such as free public college and bankruptcy reform really were quite a bit more progressive than Joe's. She was my candidate, so I would love to have her as VP-- but as long as her ideas are considered by Joe I am happy.

(2,657 posts)but a Black woman would help tremendously with the African American vote. If African Americans stay home in 2020, it could be the difference between Biden winning and Trump squeaking in again. If Biden promises to work with Warren on the legislation that she likes, it might be enough for her for now. Warren is young enough to run again.

(1,550 posts)with AA voters. His problem is with young progressives (people under 45 overwhelmingly do not identify with and do not support Biden because they do not feel like he speaks to their issues. There was an article about this in the Times just yesterday.) He needs someone like Warren, the clarion voice of the progressive left, to bring those voters out on election day.

(2,074 posts)Since Biden is so old, a woman who can step in on a moment's notice is crucial. Warren is that woman. Also maybe Harris or Klobuchar. Any of the other potential names circulated, not so much.
And yes, Warren is 70, but women generally have a bit longer shelf life than men, and she seems super healthy. And there is a big difference between 70 and 78.
Plus Warren brings the progressive chops, and all those glorious plans.
