A survey conducted by Emerson Polling in mid-February showed that 20 percent of respondents thought Harris would make the best vice president. Entrepreneur Andrew Yang, who also ran for president, was a close second, with support from 18 percent of respondents. Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who lost to Trump in 2016, came in third with 16 percent support, while former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, who has said she'd like to be vice president, placed fourth with support from 8 percent of respondents.
Democratic presidential contenders Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders both said Sunday evening that they plan to pick a woman as their running mate, an option both candidates had already suggested in the past. As the race has narrowed to just two viable candidates, speculation has grown over who Biden or Sanders would pick as their running mate, with Harris emerging as a potential frontrunner.
After Biden asserted Sunday evening during the 11th Democratic primary debate that he planned to nominate a woman as his running mate, Yang expressed some surprise via Twitter.
"Wow Joe just committed to a woman as VP. I like it. Though he didn't mention that to me when we spoke," the former Democratic candidate tweeted. In a follow-up post, he also suggested Harris would be a top contender for the role.

That would be an opposing campaign all by itself. Maybe he could be viable in very small race with favorable demographics.
I still can't believe we nominated that guy above Gwen Graham. We were so fixated on where he stood on the ideological dial everything else was ignored.
Anyway, this vice presidential poll obviously was taken when Klobuchar and others were still in the presidential race. I hope it is not Kamala Harris. Whatever energy she supposedly brings from the left is going to be offset once those suburban moms start nitpicking her aggressive confrontational personality. That type of thing does not play well from a female candidate. Ignore at our own peril.

in Calif. and I also read that Clyburn made was the deal with Biden. If true, I hope Ex-Senator
Barbara Boxer will take her place as Sen.of Calif. again. She gave up her seat for Kamala and
also Boxer is a close friend of Biden.

(43,049 posts)DO NOT risk a senate seat, as would be possible with Warren.
Do not stick someone in the Veep slot who would do better in another job. IE, Harris as AG.
Someone like Abrams may be ideal. No risk of losing a Congressional seat and she's a vote getter.

(5,003 posts)If she is chosen as VP, a democrat would replace her in the senate (Gov Newsom is a democrat), not true for Warren (agree).
Abrams doesn't have as much experience, and she didn't win her senate race (and yes, I think she was cheated out of it).
Also, seems Harris is exciting to people --> https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287669793

(43,049 posts)and trying to make their deals. Maybe Harris would go for it this time, maybe not. She might see it as a dead end, losing a "permanent" senate seat for a few years as AG.
But, it's the same risk as Veep, unless she really, really, thinks she has a shot at the nomination next time. I'm just thinking she has talents that could be better put to use than as Veep.

(10,490 posts)I wonder from their sparing last summer and her later endorsement after the California primary whether Kamala is on Joe's real short list.
Unlike Elizabeth Warren, her departure from the Senate would not hand a senate seat to the GOP. Unlike Amy or someone else, Kamala wouldn't help secure her state as a state Biden might not otherwise win (though MN is pretty blue - rumblings are GOP will take a run at it).
Susan Rice is also missing from that poll. And maybe the woman who would probably win the poll hands down but wouldn't accept the offer: Michelle Obama
I'm more in the mode of wondering who else is possible before making up my mind. But as I've said before, no candidate for president ever had a more qualified, top quality bunch of women to choose from.
The beauty of Biden getting out in front of this (beyond the fact that it is long overdue) is it takes some of the political pizzazz out of Trump throwing Mike Pence under the bus for Nikki Haley (which he still may do in spite of his denials ..)

(832 posts)As a San Francisco resident when Ms. Harris started her political career there, and as a CA resident when she moved up to state Attorney General, I think that she is too self-serving and too willing to take up any position that she thinks will get her ahead to serve at the top of an administration: the exact same weaknesses that came across during her primary run.
Of the listed options, I would go for "Someone Else", too, although I wouldn't mind Klobuchar.
